Here is the final artwork for the "Big Daddy" Don Garlits t-shirt for Vintage Drag Club. The dragster is the very cool Swamp Rat 12-B, t's and stickers available at www.vintagedragclub.com

  3. Sean:Is that the short wheelbase car? A friend of mine in M***achusetts had done a restoration many years ago on one of his cars.In the era of super long wheelbase machines(220-plus inches)this one was only 185 inches. He didn't campaign it very long as it wasn't really all that successful.Just curious.

Safariknut, I am not sure about the wheelbase on this car. I worked off old photos and magazines. Trying to find a good angle for a long thin dragster for a t-shirt is a challenge. Before I did this shirt I never knew this car existed. It's so unlike any of his other cars, it's just not black with white block letters, it's actually has some style.

  8. I bet it is the car.The guy who restored it(Paul Burns from Motor Inc.)had his own AA/FD (The Spirit of 76)and marveled at the construction details of the car.One of the things that fascinated him was the gas pedal.Made from a piece of 4130 small diameter tubing,it weighed next to nothing but was designed so that your foot fit through it and allowed you to pull back on the throttle if it should stick for any reason. This was before Don lost part of his foot in that flywheel explosion that cut his car in half.

Paul liked the idea as he had experienced a stuck throttle and a kill switch malfunction simultaneously in the Spirit at Lebanon Valley Dragway once. When the tires finally hooked up,the front end of the car shot skywards(at about 150mph)and dug the pushbar into the track. With the rear wheels an estimated 2 feet off the ground the motor grenaded and the car came back down and broke in two.Paul was burned pretty badly even with the fire suit on.

There was a picture of the car that some photographer had snapped as the car was full up in the air that was published in Popular Hot Rodding.By careful measuring,it was determined that the car was at approximately an 85 degree angle.Paul had a huge poster made of the picture and it hung on the wall in his shop for many years.

Just curious; Ar you actually rendering the back drop images or are those old prints you've retouched. (Or is this some ancient Chinese secret?) As I've sayed in the past, like the style.

Many didn'y "get it" but I think Hamb folk might. I think you have to have one foot caught in the past, Americana style.
(don't read too much into it, it's just suposed to be goofy. No double meanings, nothig sugestive, just is what it is.)

    Squindo,

I can just hear the Danny Elfman soundtrack playing in that Tim Burton directed scene! Eerie but comical. I totally dig the barn, too!
