I need an alternator that puts out good power even at idle, cost is not important, GM, one wire, with a V belt pulley.

What are you stereo guys using?

Thanks in advance for the leads.

Mine took a shit tonight. The Arizona heat, combined with the fact the car doesnt get driven much, and all of the electrical stuff I run ate this one up.

why does it need to be 1-wire?

maybe you should convert to the ol'reliable 3-wire...

I'd say get the big frame from a school bus. I think they are an S-15. Easy 90 amps maybe up to 140 or so. PM Dirty2 if he soesn't jump in here, he builds starters and alternators for a living.

  4. Late model Cadillacs are running 240 amps or so.
Your needing the alternator to be one wire will restrict your choices a lot, I think.

Better to add a second battery and diode, one to crank up the motor one to carry any "block loads", If big stereo use a big big capacitor, diode and second battery.

The only reason I said one wire is because that is how the car is wired, I could always wire in a 3-wire if necessary.

    THanks for the links.

I found this one too, the alt at the bottom of the page claims 65 amps at idle

I bought a plain ol' GM one wire at napa, $50. It's a 65 amp unit. Nothing chrome or fancy, but it's got a warantee
