Yeah, I should add, that sliding through 1 and 2 at about 120 mph didn't do his rr any good and he ended up sliding back to about where he started by the end of the race, but it sure was fun to watch. :D

Bently still drives about a half dozen ISMA races a year. He is in his early 60's and still a very competitive shoe. I've been watching him drive for 35 years. East coast supers, big indy, little indy, silver crown - how can you not love a guy like that?

A old school racer for sure, I heard a lot about him, but never got to see him race, until the S/C races. He didn't disappoint. BTW- he was born 1940, so he's actually pushing 70.

Yes, Bently's age isn't something he talks about. I did read something earlier this year that put him at 67. I've also watched him race in two ISMA races this year, and all I can say is I hope I endure half as well. The thing I like about him - other than his local pub - is in every post-race interview he is very unassuming - it's always "the car was good tonight" or "the crew gave me a great car". He always let his driving do most of the talking.

a little ot here but i got 4 free tickets to the toledo arca race yesterday (gave 2 away at the gate and made a couple happy) and it was one hell of a show. Ive seen supers midgets and winged and non winged sprints run there but never watched the arca guys...
4 guys fighting for the championship to be decided yesterday and some heated moments and tempers.. Was pretty damn exciting... And I watched the speed report last night to get a little more insite on one of the incedents and they showed the winner doing the burnout and my son was standing on the other side of the wall and he made tv! I had just stepped aside and was finishing my 4 dollar beer so we could hi tail it outta there... :)

  6. Australia's hottest super modified from the seventies, an ex San Jose car I believe, Bob Blacklaws Hornsby Diesel car. My all time favorite speedway car, it looked like an Ed Roth caricature of an altered crossed with a sprint car... love it! He ran it with the sprint cars for years during our transition from supers to sprints.

If I'm not mistaken, Bentley is from Glocester, Massachusetts and is known as the "Gloster Fisherman!" What a racer - the old #2 sure kick some ass up there in Oswego.

Thompson, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com[IMG]CT</st1:State></ST1:p– Chris Perley capped off his 2008 ISMA championship with his fifth win at Thompson Speedway's World Series of Racing on Sunday. It was his fifth win of the ISMA portion of that racing event and his sixth win overall in that race's history. Trailing him was his teammate, driving the Vic Miller 71, and 4-time World Series victor himself, Bentley Warren. <ST1:p</ST1:p<O:p</O:p

Ageless Bentley Warren climbed out of the seat of the Miller 71 all smiles, enjoying the race and the applause he has earned. ": Thanks to Vic Miller and Eddie Shea and the whole11-71 crew. The crew gave me a heck of a racecar. I really enjoyed running it. It's just so much fun to run with these guys. I really appreciate it."

For a good look at Northwest Super Modifieds plus a lot of interesting background info . Search Canadian American Modified Racing Association. Great series that ran Mid 60's Thru early 80's. You can easily spend a whole night on this site. OB

I see the picture of Jim Shampine's rear engined super, was that car 4 wheel drive. I think I remember an article about Shampine's 4 wheel drive car that was banned.

If I remember correctly, he brought the car and only ran warm ups with it until he felt it was right, raced it and put a hurtin on the entire field.

I liked that he had his seat set a little side ways to the left.
