The front of the hood needs modifications so it meets the top of the grill properly. I talked to a guy last summer that had just done a 47 Olds and aked him how he got the hood to fix so perfectly in the front and he shared with me that he actually welded a piece of rod at the bottom edge. I'll be able to explain better on Saturday
Yeah, those are all bugs. Mostly from IL and IN Big Olds didn't get a bath before I put him away for the winter. I know, I know, I'm a bad mommy. The drivers door seems to fit really good but the passager door needs alittle tweeking.
This could only happen if there was time, but.... I've always wanted to bring the bumper in closer to the body. To accomplish this the bumper would have to be lowered to clear the truck lid when it's being opened
Here's a close-up of the bumper bracket. It would have to be lowered, about the width of the bracket itself, and come out under the hole where it comes out now
Well I think I've used up enough of Ryans bandwidth for one day. I'll print these photos and bring them along on the 20th so we can have references for the brainstorming breakie So what are you guys thoughts now??? Still do-able???
a plan is being "hatched"...(pun intended) as we speak...I'm sure we can do some major damage...I mean repairs in one day
[ QUOTE ] Mike, if it would make it easier for you I can take the hood off and bring it with me next weekend to Birch Run if you and CherryBlossom will be there. If your not coming, I can drop the hood off at your place on the way home. Then you could bring it on the 3rd and I'd just drive Big Olds up there hoodless. Just a thought, let me know if this sounds like a good idea to you. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah Denise, Mike said thats a good idea....we'll pick it up from you on the 3rd I can just see you cruisin in big olds, in 30 degree weather, with no top OR hood...ppl are gonna think yer nuts! LOL
What about a Missouri guy just coming along to learn? Maybe get his hands dirty? And, could I bring my Social director along, too? Is April 3 for sure date? Jim
Jim, as far as I know April 3rd is the date. I sure hope it is cuz I'm taking the whole weekend off. Also going to sleep in the Midland area on Sat nite just incase it's too cold to drive Big Olds home on Sat nite. Maybe one of the Midland area guys can suggest a nearby motel. I'm thrilled your even considering coming up for this. I think I'm going to cry, this whole thing is very overwelming. It will be so nice to see both you and your lovely wife again. Kris, scrapbooking opportunity is stating it mildly. I'll probley end up doing a whole book just on that day alone. I'm bringing my video camera as well, I wanna be able to capture some of the antics that I'm sure will go on. [ QUOTE ] we'll pick it up from you on the 3rd [/ QUOTE ] You did mean the 20th, right? At Birch Run and bring it with you on the 3rd to Frank's place. I know Mike has alot on his plate right now and if he's too busy, pls let me know, we won't take the hood off tonight and I'll completely understand. [ QUOTE ] Monster garage...with the future "Legends" .... [/ QUOTE ] This "they" need to film and broadcast. A "hot rod" transformed into a *gasp* a "kustom" by regular guys, in a regular garage. [ QUOTE ] Otherwise I have to drop the droors to show the tattoo!!! [/ QUOTE ] Steve, and this would be a problem because.....?
OK! Midland guys, Motel close by? Address of HAMB Super Secret Thrash so I can get directions from Mapquest? Stuff I need to bring? Jim
yep meant the 20th anything you want me to bring denise? I can bring food n stuff - is franks wife allowing us girls in the house?
Denise I won't be at the Mar 20th meeting of the minds but I'm quite sure I'll be there on Apr.3 to lend a hand and bring my share of supplies (tape, filler, sanding paper, even food). Hatch, I haven't forgot about that Molson Special Dry you requested! I'll bring some for sure. Tiny Elvis, are you packing your one piece, studded white Elvis jump suit to sand in! Got mine already to go.....had to fix that big zipper in the front!
Just in case anyone is still following this, tonight after work I sprayed PB Blaster on the 9 bolts that hold the hood onto the main support. They were all pretty rusty. Let them soak a short while. Then when Roadstar got here I racheted them off pretty easily. I was surprised on how light the hood was for being as big as it is. It's ready to throw in the truck on Saturday morning. Big Olds looks even MORE like an honest to goodness hot rod with no hood and that kick ass BB sticking up for all to see. Can't wait for this snow to melt around here so I can take him out for a spin with no hood. That will be a first for me
So do we have any sort of an idea of who will be going to the Sat 20th breakfast??? I will be there!!!
Cherryblossom, You bet she is letting you gals in the house, besides you said the last time you were here you wanted to see the inside. I'll have her prepare a guided tour complete with brouchers (sp), and a guest book to sign. HAHA!!! Frank
i'm gonna try my damndest to make it on the 20th...if i can get my lazy ass outta bed!!!! i suppose all of that bacon should be reason enough!!!!
