I'm gonna buy MSD's 6BTM control box that retards the timing as boost goes up, but what I don't know is, do I want a distributor with a vacuum advance system? Does "vacuum advance" actually retard the timing? I'm gonna buy MSD's distributor as well, but I don't know which one. I'm thinking I just need their mechanical advance distributor and the box will do the rest, am I right? Thanks!
Get rid of the mech and vac advance by locking out the dizzy. The MSD manual explains how to do this. You can then set total timing and set the retard as you desire. The only issue you may have is starting the engine. Wire in a start retard boxand you're set. http://www.msdignition.com/Products...4_-_Starter_Saver_with_Signal_Stabilizer.aspx I would recommend looking at the 6-AL2 Programmable. It has so many more functions and is adjustable via laptop. http://www.msdignition.com/Products/Ignitions/6530_-_MSD_Digital_Programmable_6AL-2.aspx
