I had someone to price a 8/71 supercharger to me this weekend. Heres the rundown as I do not know what too look for. 8/71 Gmc polished case, new seals ,bearings and gaskets. Has the rear bearing cover by Good vibrations. Comes with a Enderle injection on top with polished bug catcher scoop. Throttle linkage for same. No barrel valves or pulley's. Also there is an extra polished case. Said he was tired of messing with them, and would dump it all for a grand. It was mounted on a stand with a mirror underneath so I could see the lobes turning. Ive always wanted to have a blower motor and this would be a start, but do not want to get burnt either out of ignorance. Don't know if it is for acholol or gas, but would not use the injection set at this time. Any help appreciated and thanks in advance.
You need pictures in order to answer this question. GM never made a 8-71, although they did make a 8V71.........completely different. Without seeing the condition of the housing bore and rotors, you can't put a value on it. The Enderle injector also could have issues making it wall art - who knows without pictures. Some sellers (on popular auction websites) sell the cheesy Mr. Gasket butterfly scoops as Enderle stuff. You also might want to check out the prices for the drive parts (snout, pulleys, belts, etc), intake manifold, injection pieces (barrel valve, lines, pump, etc). Anyhoo, I hope it is all good and you score big. Good luck.
First, you dont say what engine you want to put it on....8-71 is very large for a small block..I'd save my money and buy a new one from Weiand..
Thanks everyone. Engine size, I have several 351 Windsors [stroked] and am swinging a deal on a true 440-6pack motor possibly. Complete minus 6 pack, includes 4 speed and org. cast iron exhaust headers. I will do some more research. Its not going away yet.
If the hat was complete, it by itself would be almost worth a grand. As long as its not a 8v71 like previously mentioned (which I would doubt), then you could sell the hat and almost come away with a free blower. A barrel valve and pulleys are cheap.
