Howdy! I have a 6-71 Blower for my BB Chev, 454. My question is, does anyone know of a publication or "how to" about setting up the pully's for the alternator and water pump? Any help would be appreciated! BiG DawG
What you need depends on what blower drive you have. I doubt there's a "how to" for that. I'm running the short water pump on mine, there's a spacer between the crank hub and the lower V belt pulley, then the blower drive pulley (the spacer is just there to make the crank hub act like it's as thick as the stock balancer). The stock early alternator bracket and upper pulley work fine.
theres a book oiut called street super charging, google it,, still available,, but one thing,,a 6.71 is too small for 454 ci,, you would have to spin the blower to fast to make boost, that it would make a lot of heat,, heat is a common problem on super charger street engines,,mostly because of incorrect cam,,to little CFM,, the formula for correct size blower is this,,,since roots blowers came from diesel engines,, mostly 6 cylinder,, the formula is 6 x 71 the 71 is cubic inch 6x71 = 426 c,i so 426 is the biggest gas motor it would be efficient on,,unles u just want it for eye candy,, your puilleys should be the same for the alt,and water pump,,and u should use a after market balancer not a factory peice,,line up the orignal stuff,, then get your blower pullys,,and you may have to get a spacer for the upper pully, so it lines up with the lower blower pully,,, let me know if i can help ,, i run a small block mopar blown on the street for 12 years,,i drive it every where,, with 172 degrees all day long,,,i did all the research for the entire set up small block mopar supper chager stuff is rare,,,hard to find used,,,and even new,, also dyers machine shop alsip ill or BIG ALS TOY BOX in ct are all street blower friendly,,and chevy stuff is a dime a dozen easy to come by used let me know if i can help fstfish66@aol.com
6-71 driven about one to one on a 454 should make around 6-8 psi, which should equal about 600-700 hp at the flywheel if the engine is relatively mild. but maybe driving one set up like that on the street for 20 years dont' count for much?
maybe u can see here on my motor how mine line up,,, get all your normal belts and pullys in place,,then choose your balancer,,and lower blower drive pully,,,then figure out if you need to space out the top blower pully with a spacer from big als or dyers,,or bds,, or the lower pully,,if you dont have the blower dive pulleys yet,,,figure out if you will need to run a 2 inch blower drive or if you have the room for a 3 inch,,along with a fan set up heres a pic if it posts,,,
Thank you all for your advise. I will download and print the pictures and the text. I appreciate your time!! I dig this H.A.M.B. site. HOw cool is it to have people who really do these mods and have experience. BiG DawG
