skirts=cool. Only chop and channel, may not be extremely radical but would look pretty cool. Just my opinion but I am not the one that needs to be happy with it!! have fun and cool ride.
doesn't look right with the chop, looks like the top is too small for the car. skirts without a doubt.
I have to agree, with the top chopped, it does appear that the body is to big for it. That being said that red car above is sharp.
i really like this thank you your guys are awsome im loving all the input, so glad i found this place
Im not a fan of the front grill...It looks to "happy" to me what do guys like about desoto, vette, grill?
Just my 2 cents but a Section would make your car look like melted jello when parked. A nice chop would do wonders. I had a 48 just like yours I wish I never would have let that one go.
It would be interesting to see the section taken from above the fender line and through the hood, similar to several Barris built Fords (Urrita, Zaro, Stewart, etc.).
Me neither. I was all set to chop my '36, until I got it down on the ground. When it was 18" up in the air on jack stands it looked like the windows were huge, but once I got it down on the ground, the perspective changed entirely. That car looks good like it is. Put it down on the ground and I'd bet you'll be surprised at how good it looks. Besides, IMO the ch***is and drivetrain work should be done before the huge body mods, so you know what you need to work around visa vi the firewall, floor pan, etc. Having the body solidly mounted to the frame will help it not twist out of shape if/when you go to chop it as well. You'll still have to brace the inside, but at least it'll still fit the body mounts when you're done. Good luck, either way. It's a damned good looking car to start with.
Sounds like too much chop to me. Big long car so it needs some m*** to keep it right. You can always go lower but I'd start at 2" and maybe 2 1/2-3". The adding length plan also works. Puts visual m*** in perspective. The section is also too much. Again it removes needed visual m*** to such a large car and really the only thing out of whack is the long decklid. That car has proportions similar to those big ol Zephyrs from the late 30s we all love so much. Rake the windshield some and "fastback" it just a bit, that would be a winner. I like the clean grille treatment on the red one shown. Also consider how visually big the side windows will look when they're too long. You asked for opinions so there ya go. You didn't have to ask for skirt opinions. That's a given in my book.
The red one as pictured is choice, but that's a front-quarter shot that visually shortens it and makes it look more like it's little brother............the '46-'48 Plymouth coupe. And painting it black or a dark color would shrink it as well.
You are correct...I think I've got a profile shot somewhere in my archives...I'll look for it and post it up... I didn't think Plymouth ever made a three window coop those years...correct me if I'm wrong...!!! R-
The photo chop with the front end shortened ahead of the front wheels looks the best. Might I also suggest a mild wedge-section of the hood, maybe 1.5 inches at the nose, to eliminate that odd "it must be melting because the cowl seems to sit lower than the front of the car" look? I think it's time to head to the "photoshop thread to end all photoshop threads" [do a search] and politely request a few versions to look at. Beautiful car to start with. Good luck!
I like Kaspers section & skirts. That looks cool. definitely need to wedge cut the hood to bring the front down just a tad. Also rake out the back window some. I'm either way with the chop, but would lean towards less than more.
Same as earlier, but with a slightly raked c-pillar/rear window area. Still no chop tho. (Click for bigger version)
Just playing around with your car... A slight chop with an extended and more sloped rear roof. Reshaped front wheel openings. Skirts for sure! Hope you don't mind. However you do it; it's going to be cool! GaryC.
That car needs to be a dark color! What a difference. The red and blue ones look off, but the dark colored ones look just right. It's great to see what the car might look like before you cut anything. Good luck! Mike
So is this the blooming ton / richfield car that was for sale a few years ago that no one could put anything togather on as the guy was stroke to every body are you the guy or did you buy it from him?
Yeah, it definitely needs the arch left in the window surround. That earlier photoshop of the OPs pic made it look like something fell on it... I'm a big fan of chops, but that stock roofline is gorgeous without the wind wings.... See CoolHand's post below.
