I want supremes for my 61 Impala bubble. Does anybody have advice on what size? What offset?? What Tires? Wide whites? Skinny? I was thinking skinny but should I get radials or??? thanks......
If its a driver go radials for sure. 215 or 225/70/15 skinny whites or skinny whites with the colored strip on 15 x 7 wide with a 3.5" back spacing. GB & Thanks, Rick Erickson of EXK EXTREME KUSTOMS www.ericksonskustoms.com
be careful with the deep offset. I bought a pair and couldn't drive the car or they would rub. Lucky for me a buddy bought them for only a few bucks less than what I paid. I like 14 x 7. regular offset. got 185x75x14 pinner whites on mine. definitly radials.
14x7 standard (3.5" backspace) ... 175-70 tires, or 5.20s... then again, askin me is like askin whats best for a lowrider.. so let us know what style car you are going for my friend, this will help a LOT here is my galaxie on the same wheels with the 175-70 tires
I like how that Galaxie sits but I like more of the 60's style, less lowrider. Im interested to see how 15's would look.... thanks
15x7 with 205/70 narrowband radials if it were mine. I ran this on my 61 canadian pontiac which uses the chevy chassis and had no issues with rubbing, it was very low and the wheels were reversed
Big cars need 15" wheels IMHO Front 15 x 6, 3.25"-3 3/4" Back Space (my steelie fronts on my '62 are 15 x 5.5 with a 3.5" BS) & 195/70 OR 205/70 Rear 15 x 7, 4"-4.125" Back Space (my rear steelies are 4.25" and are a hair tight on the inside) & 225/75 OR 225/70 Definitely pinner whites with Supremes, they were made for each other like peanut butter and jelly. Sence your more into the late 60's style check out these 15" radiars with 225/70/15 gold stripe vogues on this very mild custom 65 rive. I think the supremes would look better on your impala. GB & Thanks, Rick Erickson of EXK EXTREME KUSTOMS www.ericksonskustoms.com
with 15s go 3.5 backspace, 205-70 tires, or even 215... in the 60s they still used taller tires lets not forget boys
15x7 Supremes with 235/60 dual pinners. A higher, 70-series tire would be more correct for the period I think but a 60-series tire helps the car sit lower another inch orso, without losing too much suspension travel.
Back in the 60's everybody wanted 14's 'cuz they let the car sit lower. 15's were out of fashion.....I worked at a busy Enco staion and we barely stocked 15's except for old beaters....Atlas Grip Safe's were the cheap tires. All the better tires were stocked in 14 inch only. Here's my ride in '64... 775X14.... stock 5.5" or 6" wheels.. High school kids couldn't afford mags on $1.35 per hour. The FIRST set of mag whhels I ever saw in person was in 1965 when a customer put on a set of Cragar's on his new '65 442. So if you're going for the 60's look ditch the 15's.
Thanks for the input, I think I'm going for the 15x7, with thin whites. Just got to figure out what brand. Never thought getting the right wheeld would be so complicated.
I was just at the Iron-N-Ink and got some just good ideas. The 59 El Camino was insane, I also saw the Riviera above..... nice show
Thanks... the Big 3 switched to 14's in '56/'57. Everybody was into "new' stuff and tossed the old 15's in droves. 15's were never available after '57 unless it was on limo's or maybe a few wagons IIRC. They came back in the late 70's as cars got bigger and heavier. When I was racing cheap dirt cars in the late 60's we had a tough time finding 15" wheels for our cars....
