If there is surface rust on some gears is it ok to run as is? Is there an easy way to remove it? Have not removed tail yet just looking thru side covers. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the rust visible in your pics. , it's the rust you can't see I'd be worried about ..[bearings , shafts, etc.]

what are your options? Do you have more gears, bearings etc. Take it apart clean the rust off as best you can check bearing re***emble and drive it like you stole it. I'm guessing you don't have a lot of options

I would clean the oil out of it with soap and a pressure washer and fill it with mol***es for a few weeks. Or better yet, take it apart and give everything a mol***es bath.

  5. Looks more like water stains than rust.

Wipe off what you can, fill with oil and use it. After 100 miles change the oil in it. It doesn't look bad at all. I have run ones with more rust then that with no problems.

Wouldn't worry me to run it... wipe off what ever you can, fill, run and change the lube after a few hundred miles.

Either clean it as best you can and run it, or take it all apart. It's up to you.

If that is the only issue RUN IT ! Turn it a few turns if the bearings feel smooth I wouldn't be concerned.

That doesn't look bad. Run it like it is and change the gear oil after 500 miles. [IMG]
