  1. I like where you are heading with this Dana and agree on the plenum size and the dividers for the ports, gotta keep them air fuel mixes moving. If you get a good idle you should also have sharp throttle response with those short runners, way cool !!JW:)

    Happy B-day to me,my son got me a cool little radio/SD card with remote and 2 speakers,that is so small I can hide it under the dash,the size of a pack of Camels. So will have some oldy goldys on board.
    Plan is to mount tiny remote on side of my steering colume an speakers each side under dash. aradiosmallpack.JPG

  3. What a cool wee devise Dana and may I say happy Birthday to you. These old hot rods should only have Golden Oldie tune coming from them, it just seems proper. JW :D

    A few years back all my local radio stations that did play any oldys, jumped off any more 50 n 60s that I like,to 80 n 90s,I don't care for ,ya I know that is oldy to some one,but not me or my rod. I'll try an get some photos of this as I go

    Now that you have it all complete... I hope you've been giving some serious consideration to bringing your car up to the NSRA Nats here in Tampa in just a few short weeks (Oct 10-12). Hope so, anyway. Gary

    Wish I could get away like I use't,but just can't.
    The speakers for this set-up will be these.
    I'll need to make some screen toe sheilds for them,bing just under dash some ones foot could kick up in to them.

    Back in my thread post #239,I said I'm taking my time rebuilding another Ford Thunderbird Y-block V8,to put fresh motor in when its all done. Plus playing with making myself a 4x2 log intake. This stuff is as I go.
    Too many speed bumps now day,here an there all over town,so time for some eztra strong oil pan;
    I did get something done that maybe interesting,home made skid plate for the bottom of oil pan.
    I picked some 1/8in. steel plate to use and weld to pan.
    Started out with a cut out pizza box pattren fitted to oilpan base,made a notch were I did a bend up to go over oil plug. Then a few other bends to help the fit,tack welded in place an heated with Ox/Acc to get a nice shape.

  10. That'll do the trick, speed bumps are made for vehicles with the motor over the axle where ours are well behind. Got your tunes player in yet ? JW

    Thanks JW,
    Almost got the tunes ready.got both speakers mounted and toe screen fix in.,bracket made for remoto. Laying up side down on floor under dash,I do in short time jumps only,feels harder to do then it was years ago. Close to having some Doo Wop

    Radio is working and sounds fairly good,bass a small bit week,but for that size amp is, it should be just fine.
    So back to playing with junk around the shop for building 4x2 log intake. The two old leftover drive shaft tube parts are good for fabbing logs "2.5in. ID and risers "2.25in. ID,and for stub tubes some 1in, OD pipe with steel plates of 1/4in., 4 carb flanges and some 1/8in. plate for log caps and port deviders

    I got started on some fab work,here a few photos of parts I made so far.[IMG]
    The first thing I did was the coolingwater cross over,most of the time on log intakes they just hook up two lines into a "Y" to rad,but leve out the thrimastat. I though about that an desided to do it so I could just hook up my reg rad hose an have the little bypass too that Ford Y uses to de-air the water ,plus have stock thrimastat. The two stubs are for adding to intake flange for the short hoses,those flange plates are yet to be made,but will look a bit like a intake gasket,but thicker. Using my 4in. grinder,drillpress and bandsaw to shape parts.

  17. Happy belated Birthday sir. Can't believe I've never commented on your car...having seen it more than once for sure.....nice work you've done, and you just can't beat the spirit that surrounds that car. So happy to see the upcoming fab work on the four 2 log set up. That is by far one of my favorites. I sure don't have to mention Mickey Thompson or Tommy Ivo to you.....I'm sure you can fill in more then I could. Gotta' love their early induction choices though. Awesome stuff.

    Thanks.
    One of the things I'm going to need for 4x2's is a fuel log. After looking at the $cost of 4 out fuel logs,I desided to just make one myself. Hunting around the shop for something ,I can up with a peice of stainless steel box tube 1,in. X 1,in. OD. I cut the ends so I could fold a flap down to close them up an welded the ends shut. Drilled an taped 5 holes ,4outlets an one in let,these are spaced out for carbs. I polished it up before adding fittings. Did air psi test under water to check for leaks,by looping some hose from outlet to out let.

    I have a frenid thats going to make me the intake flanges,at his work place with a jet cutter,always great to have help.
    Thats going to save a lot of work right there. I had not done anything yet ,other make a pattern,so took that offer up with a smile plus!!!Going to save me some time,great to have buddy's.
    That got me going a little faster with trying to put some of the parts I have made together. Thinking over the best order and how to hold stuff for welding. I came up with putting a intake gasket on my drillpress table as fit to size,added runners n log,clamped in place by press,being carefull to have angle an spacing right. an tackwelded. This will need cleaning up both inside the tubes and outside for flow an looks. At this point its all open and fairly EZ to get into for grinding inside for flow were log an runner come together. I had not tryed to be real close when cutting holes in the log for port runner and carb runners so there would be less change of me missing the match up,an leves enough metal to get a good weld. In a perfect would you may fit your hole better then me,I'll just grind to fit after welded. Photo is after I did clean some clean up,but set same way for view. IMAG1911.jpg

  23. Dana,I really like the cool ideas on the intake,,the drawings are so cool. HRP

    Cool project. It's awesome you've kept it with you as long as you have. I really enjoy the feel and the line in your sketches, both in this thread and in your upholstery thread.

    Thanks,always good to know its enjoyed by others.
    The order of things as I plan;
    Getting inside the tubes for clean up is best done before too much is welded together. Cleaning up the inside were the tubes come together with drill n eaterbit. Trying to smooth/help out the flow some. Will add port deviders next in side port tubes. This is head flange to log port tube in photo,next will be log to carb flange.,Then the four little one/in. balance tubes that go on side of log to hook up left an right logs to better hold vac at low RPM.
    Welding head flanges and carb flanges part,an last parts will be caps to logs n water outlets on head flange with some clean up. To test it out for leaks,I plan making some block off plates and temp gaskets,loop a hose between crossovers an put one side at a time under water with some air psi in it,look for bubbles=then fix if any leaks before painting.

    Yup,Kid,I'm 72 and my rod is 55 years old now,but we both feel young running down the road. I'm doing 4x2log pretty much the same way I had worked on a few years back. Idea is its both fun 4 me ,looks sexy an in a way replaces the carb set up I had in 1959=4x2 Thunder intake w/Cady El carbs set on it{too much $ for me now to replace after having sold them off in 65.

    Wow a shiny black paint "Y" blocked Hot Rod with a beer tap shift handle. It doesn't get better than that. And the man does his own work too boot. Hats off to you and the Mrs. sir.
