Lets see the old hot rods that were around in the 50s/60s that are on the Hamb, Lets see what they looked like then, when you got it, now and what you've done to it, what you plan on doing with it. I have two My coupe (That everyone is probably sick of seeing) and a 1940 ford truck that my grandfather had in the mid 50s. The Truck was used to pull the stock cars and was painted to match, It had a Hot Flatty in it that was pulled out to go into the stock car when its motor was blowed up one night. It then got a mid 50s olds engine dropped in it with a homebuilt adapter plate to the early ford ******. My grandfather gave the truck to my dad when he was 15 and sold it before my dad got is license afraid he would get hurt. My dad kept track of the truck and tried to buy it but the owner would never sell it he was going to fix her up someday. One day when I was at work I was talking to a guy and he said his father had a 1940 and a 1941 ford pickup so I mentioned my grandfathers truck and we was talking about the same truck and he said his dad would never sell it but I told him if something should change please call me. Three months later I get a call saying to come look at the trucks his dad was on his death bed and everything was going. Went to look at the trucks Grandpas old truck now had a 55 cad engine in it and the 41 had a sbc in it. I got the 41 running for my beater truck and have been buying parts for the 40. I will post some old pics of it later when I dig some of them up. here is pics when we brought it home.
now its in the garage all apart What do I do with it??? Ive got the org frame and I have a 32 frame, I was going to put it on the 32 frame and as I started mocking it up I dont like it as well as I thought I would. I haven't had much time to work on it either so Im just about to put back the way it was but should I do the body work to it and try to stop the rust or leave it the way it is??
I'd put it back to it's former car show glory and make it shine. Do***ented with the pics and magazines you have is just cool. I love seeing photo albums of cars at cars shows that do***ent it's history and restoration.
Oh yeah, build it just as it was. A shame to loose that history. There are plenty of other bodys to put on 32 ch***is.
If I had your car I'd just go threw the mechanicals and fluids and drive it for a few years(maybe forever) then I'd restore it to its shiny days later on.....Shiny
Thats what I did three years ago now I feel like I want to do something else with it. Lets see some more survivor cars in one post!!!
This is my '29, built by the old man in 58-59. Still has original '54 Olds Rocket , Hydramatic , and tri-power. '53 Merc dash, '54 Ford rear end. Been in the family the whole time. A true survivor in ever sense.
Two cars come to mind with this post; yngrodders' coupe and curaters' roadster. I've got kind of a surviver (whats left of it) some of you may have seen these pictures recently.I have no idea what it looked like when it was first built, so the first ones are when I got it, and the current one is how far I've got with it so far. it's slow and ugly, but I'm getting there. The coupe body's not staying though, I'm putting a truck cab on.
Since we're on the subject, I was diggin around on my computer and found these. This car was built in the mid 50's by the two brothers that still have it today. Their father ran a salvage yard, so they pretty much had thier pick of the place. they said they drove it to graduation in '58, and it is completly untouched Channeled, unchopped, filled roof, 265 chevy and trans (3-speed stick) the paint and interior where still pretty good, but it's been sitting for decades.I could'nt get far away enough to get a total car shot, so halfs will have to do.
Mine is a survivor on life support. It was a complete car at one time. Leaded up door handles, shanneled, and unchopped.I chopped it and I am going to stay channeled, and I might leave the handles leaded up. I found the original frame rails but they were being cut up for a 31 roadster. I saved them by purchasing the whole roadster. I am far from where these other cars are but I am trying. Oh yea, by the way I love the yngrodder car, leave it the way it was and restore it. jim
