I got my first project home ('34 International) and now I have to start planning on a rolling chassis. I would like to keep as many stock parts on the truck as possible. My question is this front suspension worth keeping as far as safety, converting the brakes to hydraulic and parts availability? Also, I would like to keep the leaf spring rear because I do have the stock rearend, is that worth using or keeping? I am planning on chopping and channeling the body over the frame and not running any fenders. Would I be better off just buying a frame kit with a new frame and front suspension (drop axle)? My main concern is having this thing safe driving down the road. This is my first hot rod build.

    Thanks for your help

The steering drag link looks like it is bent.
That could be the result of a collision so check/measure the frame for being bent, twisted, or out of square before going on with modifications.
It already as hydraulic brakes...Do you just mean more modern brakes?
If so, yes. Go up to a later, self energizing design drum brake.

If you change the engine/transmission, change the rear end too.

Keep the parallel leafs or sell it and build a Ford (style) frame.

If you chop and channel it I hope you're under 5' 6" tall and can drive with your knees bent up against your chest...

    First rod?
    First anything?
If it's your first build of anything, do half as many modifications as you think you can realistically pull off on one project to get the experience.

I've been driving a '40 General Motors Truck with similar parallel leaf springs for 14 years and it works well, and handles well.

If you want to get radical, flip the frame upside down and reverse stack the springs and run it underslung.

I have been building harley's and have had many 60's muscle cars and drag racing experience. This is my first hot rod build and not very familiar with the parts, especially this front end. I have been reading a lot and have purchased some chassis and body custumizing books to try and educate myself more. I have learned a lot just from reading on this board. Thanks for your input.
