im trying to lower my 50 poncho wit a 350 combo transplant the problem is that the motor and tranny sit lower than the frame and suspention wat would be a good cheap alternative to bags? any one have any ideas?
First off you should raise the engine and trans above the frame rails. Next you can cut coils, use an abrasive cut off wheel to do the job. Do not torch your springs. Cut one coil wind at a time. Typicaly one coil wind is eaqual to two inches. With a stock front and rear suspension you cannot expect to go too low without complications and aggrivation to ride quality. I also recommend upgrading to modern tube shocks. I like the KYB brand stuff on lowered cars, Bilstien if you have the buck to spend on an exceptional ride. If an airspring system is outside your budget you may want to re-think your project goals. You can put together a nice reliable system for under $2500
