I have a 2" SW Greenline water temp gauge in desperate need of restoration. How do you get the bezel off of these without destroying them? I want to see if the face is any good or even restorable, but can't see if clear enough to tell with all of the dirt and other debri between the bezel and the face. Thanks Rod
It can be very tricky to get the bezel off with out hurting it, it usally take a small screw driver and you just slowly make circles working the bent over edge off, if you try and hurry it you can leave big marks, so its a slow porcess. jeff
Jeff is right. If you have a s**** gauge somewhere, use that as a test subject. There was a fairly recent thread on this by HAMBer "Ago." You'll probably be able to find it with the search feature. The thread mainly had to do with how to calibrate mechanical water temp gauges, but showed how to remove the bezel. I tried it with a s**** S/W gauge & it didn't turn out bad at all. I think I actually posted some pics of it. I used a tiny screw driver with the flat blade tip bent at a 45 degree angle. Like Jeff said...slowly.
Thanks guys, I will see how it goes this week on my time off. I was hoping there was something other than pry the edges off, but since that seems to be the only way. Nothing to loose at it is nearly worthless as it is. So worth a shot. Rod
