Event Coverage Swap Meet Shocker

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Johnny Gee, Dec 5, 2011.

  1. I have noticed the trend on other automotive sites as well, small inexpensive stuff seems to be selling and the bigger bit more expensive stuff seems to just sit. I have watch a 64 Dart that started out at $8500.00, I know the car and it is worth whats being asked for it, it is now at a $6500.00 asking price, all because it has not sold in a year. I have stuff I'd like to get rid of an have cut my prices down to the point of just trying to make my money back or trade for what I need. Working two jobs, just trying to pay the bills and buy parts to fix what I have....

  2. I think people got tired of guys buying cars and then doing next to nothing to them and then Flipping them for a profit. This drives up the cost of the hobby just as much as Barrett Jackson or any of the other stuff that guys on here complain about raising the price.
In fact it is probably worse, since most of the guys are here are looking for the affordable cars, not the million dollar D-J deals. When the rough stuff that used to be cheap gets "Flipped" a few times it is no longer affordable!

Swap meets seem to be hit or miss. My partners and I try to only deal with high quality stuff so we usually dont have any problems selling. In the past few months we have sold a number of cars and have been extremely happy with our net profit. Turn key cars are always gonna move better in this type of economy.

  4. Free markets have a way of correcting themselves when prices get over-inflated. When it happens it can hurt you or help you, depending on what end of it you're on. It's all a healthy process if left alone. Things will come back around in time.

I set up as a vendor at a model show on Sunday and made out really well, too. Some of my higher-dollar stuff came back home with me but people were spending on moderate and lower priced stuff. Let's face it, after a while, you need to do something as a pick-me-up and spending a few dollars on your hobby is a good way of doing it. I'm already looking forward to the next one the organizer has scheduled for the spring!

See that's my deal right now. I know what I want to build, but I have in my garage a 60 plymouth, a 71 Plymouth Fury Wagon and a 92 Ford pickup that all need to go. I would be fine with trading all of them for the one car I want to build.... Which would be most late 50's early 60's Mopar 4 door (yes you heard right) cars... or a 59 pontiac (4 door) or an interesting early 70's 4 door mopar. But... Like you said... EVERYONE seems to want cash and only cash.
