I am gonna toss this around and see what options i have to do something like this... Has anyone does this? Maybe someone who has done it? Does anyone make an adapter plate to toss a TH350/400 or C4/C6...maybe a dodge 727 or something non-computer controlled onto the motor? What route do i have to go as far as a flexplate in place of the flywheel and such? I will custom make the crossmember no problem but i wanna go auto...ANY help is appreciated, i REALLY want to be able to drive this car for summer!!!!
What kind of engine. Some flathead sixs did come with autos. You could tell which ones by the old ladys p***ing them pushing their walker.
i would rather have old ladies p***ing me and not have trans issues with the manual in there now! it is a dodge, flathead 6...the model is a D14, but i have no idea as to the cubes of it yet...sorry i am a noob
look for a rebuildable MOPAR 904 trans from behind a slant six. Valve body timing and ratios will be perfect for what you want. You will need a small adaptor from the crank flange to the little flex disc and a plate to hang the starter from the engine and to adapt the trans to the engine. A 727 is overkill and don't forget that they are mostly for V8's with correspondingly high 1st gear . As a matter of interest if you hunt around for some of those Mitsubishi based Chrysler pickups of the 80's,they have a suitable 904 behind the mitsu engine .. Some 904's have removeble bell housings to which is even better as making a bell housing is mostly just a matter of effort ,not complication. I bolted one up behind a flathead ford once.
i lust put a c4 behind a v8 60 and i used a flat-o-matic adaptor.. if not you could try kenedy engineering products in lancaster, CA they specializes in adaptors if they dont have one they can make it
from 55 to 61 I believe you could order a Plymouth or Dodge with the flathead six and a iron case powerflite trans with push****ons. You might look for one of those.
Wilcap does make an adapter plate to put GM transmissions behind these engines. I don't think it's cheap, though. I talked to a guy who used one to put a 700-R4 behind the flat six in his Dodge (he also set it up with EFI). With the overdrive, he said that car would cruise all day long at 75-80mph without a problem.
Yeah, we have them. The v-8 904 or A-500 is the way to go. Some of the OD units will have additional requirements for electrical but the advantage is the superior gear multiplication. PM if you want the full story. Gary .
