After removing my front bumper and hood moldings from my 1953 Buick Super, I found out that the damage to the molding was extensive. I was wondering if the front bumper of a 56 olds will work as I have access to one. It will eliminate the molding all together, but it will eliminate the BBuick' s toothy grill as well.
It could work, and you might even be able to rework the toothy insert from the Buick into the Olds bumper opening. But it will be very, very far from a bolt-on swap, will require extensive reworking of the front end sheetmetal of the Buick to make it fit. Also, is the Olds a 88 or a 98? The first thing to check is the width, if the Olds bumper is narrower, it's going to require widening it to make it fit the Buick, and that will be a huge amount of work.
Not afraid of fabrication. It just*****s that the part I need is a pot metal part that's broken easily and all the yards I've searched out west are broken as well.
That moustache bar is a tough piece to find, I know, after doing my dad's 52 Roadmaster. Consider forming a new moustache bar out of steel and welding it into the front clip of your car for a moulded look. Would look nice and smooth and be less fab work than the '56 bumper. A '56 Olds front bumper that's solid and has decent chrome is a valuable item, you might consider getting it just to resell.
