One of our local customers is selling a 59(I think) Caddy to someone over there. I forget, but it is one of those two countries. I was wondering if it happens to be a HAMBer on the other end or if some HAMBer knows who is buying it? Just curious, it is not often a SOuth Dakota car gets sent that way.
Hey Trent. 59 Caddys are'nt as rare as you might think over here. I think it has something to do with them being really hot in Sweden in the seventies when they were really cheap because no one wanted them in the US. A lot of Biaritz'es came to Sweden in the late seventies and early eighties (RPW will know more on this). Today there are at least two 59 Coupe De Villes in my little 30.000 inh. hometown, both restored to mint condition.
Next time I talk to Al, I will get the buyers name. The more I think, I am sure he said Sweden. Thanks
Out of the dozen sales I have done on Ebay, two went to different guys in Sweden. They love our car stuff! alchemy
We (Swedes) have been buying your fin-cars since the sixties. I can probably say that there is more American convertibles per capita in Sweden than any other country in the world, including USA. When Americans was trading in their Cudas, Cadillacs etc for Datsuns after the oil embargo, Swedes were lined up to buy them. Now when I live in the States, I want them BACK ! When did you see a '59 Cad at a car meet in the US lately? This is what it can look like at a meet in Sweden: My hats off to the Scandinavian guys that saved a lot of American Iron when nobody else wanted it.
Hej Rolf be cool, a lot of the best fin and cabriolets cars has been sent back to good old US of A, since we cant pay the price. Some of our best 32 Roadsters has been sent back and sold for a lot of $. Thats the cost of free trad i guess and nothing to weep about ;-) Anyway if you want to get a feel of the car scene youy can check out my photo album here. Power Bigmeet at Västerås Sweden 2003 And here is my Highlights of the meet Power Bigmeet high lights 2003 And there is a small Kustom meet at the same day to. Custom kemps of Sweden Västerås 2003 Sorry i hijacked the post
Lars: Thanks for sharing the pics from our custom meeting this summer, and that is a nice choice of custom! Its right about the 59 Cads, they are not that rare here, at least a few in each town! This is the 59 that was owned by a friend of mine 20-25 years ago (times do pass fast...). Already a real nice restoration by then, used it during the summer. Many, many miles and hours was spent crusing in that one. The photo was shot 4 in the morning in the magic Swedish bright summer night. The place? Katthult, Lönneberga. The place of Emil i Lönneberga! (Famous Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren wrote stories about Emil, a young kid growing up there...) (One little thing of notice, the name Custom Kemps of Sweden is no longer, about a year ago it was changed to Customs of Sweden).
Hej Lars, thanks for pix, great stuff back "home" RPW, looks like the car I sent to Sweden in the early eighties: Sorry again to hijack the post, I get all excited when talking about Sweden and 59 Cads...brings back many memories...when I was a Swedish "raggare" He, he !
No hijacking noted! You guys are filling me in on Scandanavian Customs. Seems like the 59 Caddy is more loved over there than here!!!! Being of Norwegian stock, I dig seeing what is going on over there.
It does look like they're loved there, but I don't know about more than here! (I've owned my '59 for about 9 years now - I got it right before I turned 20).
Rolf: Very similar, but the one you sent here looks like a Ser 62 cpe, the one on my photo is a Coupe De Ville. Also, he had his car already in 1979. Same color though.
My '56 caddy went to a guy named Magnus in Sweden. And last time I was in Copenhagen, there was a '59 parked on the street in front of Tivoli Gardens. It took 2 complete spots too.
I have some good friends that are Swedes, and they have beautiful cars. I will post pics if possible, one of my friends is Jay Lenos restorer. I sold a 74 Mazda RX-4 wagon to a dude there. Maybe to race it?? I would love to go there for a good car show as my favorite 57 58 mercs are well represented there. Would my wife go for that? Absolutely not! Sorry to hijack the post, but looking for a good shipping/ selling contact in Sweden..
Per that pic is beautiful in every way. (EEEEEEEMIIIIIL!!!) There was an halfassembled 59 Coupe DeVille in the garage I rented earlier. It was for sale for what I think was abt. nkr.30.000 ($4.000). I friend of mine considered it, but it was sold to eastern Norway before ha was through considering. If I was to have a 59 it should be black and four door and in everyday use in the salt-free months...
there's more 59 Caddys over 'ere then any other US car too for some reason and they're often pink and owned by Elvis imitators.
Per Anders-Staberg from Sweden is the lucky chap getting a 60 Caddy. I talked to Al today. Anyone know him? Sounds like a dealer as he has another car coming with it.
