Technical switching carbs

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by gdrummer, Jul 3, 2024.

  1. The exact reason I gave up with duel carbs and aluminum finned heads, the really look great but they don't work on a stock engine. I'm back to stock heads and a single carb, and the duel intake and Offie heads are gone. Just sayin'

I would not buy the Speedway 97's. But you do what you want with your money. Clive offers a base with vacuum, if he builds the carbs for you he may work a deal on that , I have no clue but I'd talk to him before spending money on Speedway carbs.

I use 97's and an MSD distributor but I run a stout flathead. As for stockers, still cool but we were raised to be hot rodders or we wouldn't be here on this site. We don't leave well enough alone. We cam, carb, exhaust, relieve, port and polish. We don't restore. We're better than that. And yeah, sometimes we F it all up but it's usually nothing money can't fix.

A stock '53 Victoria would have a Loadamatic distributor; and the fix for that in 1960-62 would have probably been a Mallory dual point with centrifugal advance.

That base is not compatible with the Loadomatic distributor, it's the 'wrong' kind of vacuum. It needs to be venturi vacuum not ported vacuum

Assuming that this set up is 2 x ‘97 carbs ? - (you didn’t mention it)

My 8BA came with a stock 1&1/16” carb - runs really well. I have often thought about putting another on, although probably progressively.
fwiw - Out of curiosity I put an unknown condition ‘94 on it for a trial, the difference was quite substantial, with the larger carb it ran much better.
