I'd always had an itch for Vintage Campers and last fall it escalated into starting to look for one. After combing a lot of local small towns and Craigslist a friend of mine told me he was going to sell his. He had bought it a few years ago and brought it home to start the restoration progress. After literally stuffing it in his garage ( he had to take the wheels and axle off, set it on small dollies and drag it in under his door with his lawn mower ) he started tearing it apart and lost interest. It was pretty bad shape but a good model (1962 Shasta).
Both being car guys we worked out a deal to trade for some SBC parts I had and I was the proud owner of a huge project.
Im not a good enough craftsman to tackle this job so I found a guy in Mercer Mo. Stan Miller of Vintage Trailers and Restorations (check him out on FB ) to do the restoration for me. We put the trailer back as good as possible wrapped it with that commercial grade saran wrap stuff and headed off to Mo. about a 4 hour drive.
Stan has a great knowledge of vintage trailers and has done quite a few restorations. He took it down to the chassis and started back up. We added a few updates to make it a little more comfortable like A/C, and a Micro wave but buried them in the cabinets so not to be to obvious. It'll also have a 2 way fridge stove/range small water supply and 12v pump. He's done a great job and its getting really close.
Looking forward to doing some Vamping (vintage camping) this summer and am currently working on a 68 chevy truck to pull it with .
Check out the pic's and see what ya think. Gary

Looks great, I have a 1970 scotty camper which we tow with the 56 chevy. Both painted the same colors. Get all sorts of thumbs up cruized down the road. We do rallys with other like minded campers with old campers. It's lots of fun and people love checkingit out at the shows. I do the outside and the wife sets up the interior. SHe has a couple of themes she uses. A coka cola set up, vintage setup, and if it's a Nascar event day she has a Nascar theme setup. Lots of fun enjoy. I'll see if I can post some photos of our little set up. YRUHOT.......Doug

That honestly looks like more work than if you had taken and built one from scratch. Nice job.

Here's the 68 Chevy P/U thats gonna pull it. Malcolm actually brought this back from Ca. a few years ago when he bought it from another HAMB'r.
Nice little truck been lowered, A/C, PDB, PS, hidden receiver hitch. Motor needed a little freshening up and some more giddyup. More to follow on both. Gary

Looks GREAT! We have two Spartan Manors, and '53 "Tini-Home" 12' canned ham. The Tini-Home was a frame up, like you're doing. Lot's of fun. Check ours out on my blog, just click on the link in my signature line.

Thanks for the pictures. I remember when my dad and his friend sold those things brand new. Always wanted one to drag behind an old car. Good luck.
PS Brian, enjoy your email posts.

Ladyhrp and I have had the itch for several years,,got close on a 57 Aljo but lack of title in this state is a no go.

Then I got close with a restored '56 Shasta,,but timing was wrong,,had it been posted a week later and I would be posting photos instead of telling the story.

Sooner or later I'm gonna find the right vintage camper to drag around behind the "Ranch Wagon". HRP

Probably a little more ambitious than I would be. Came out real nice. I'd love to have one soon.

Most of the vintage camper that seem to appeal to me end up being have way across the country,,need a lot of work and by the time you figure transportation to get a basket casr across country your in deep.

I would rather spend a few Extra bucks and find the right thing. HRP

Thanks there is still more to do. Windows, wings, mount the new tires on the fresh painted wheels. Updates to come.

Thats a great looking combo. Thanks for the pic's

It pretty much is built from scratch. The good is using all the original Shasta sheet metal, cabinets where possible and Shasta badges. Having an original Shasta title is also a plus

That is a cool pair of tear drops. Thanks for the pics

It was quite a project. I can't say enough about the quality of work done on this by Vintage Trailers and Restorations.

  21. Love what you are doing. I have restored a Shasta compact before and just picked up this 1964 Aladdin 16 footer. I think I got a smoking deal on this one. I have some interior issues to deal with, but will be taking her on a maiden run to Calif in April. It even came with all the gear to start camping right away, including a cupboard full of food (pull date 1989..LOL).

Like I said earlier we have been on the look out for a nice vintage camper,,it seems around my neck of the woods the people that have unrestored campers are asking restored prices,,,We just keep looking. HRP

    Nice work! I like it.

I started a real basic teardrop for just hauling and sleeping. No kitchen. I like fire.

I had a few people message me about my build. So I put up an album. I'm just building it as I go. No plans or drawings.

So cool, love the turquoise range. Looks to be in pretty good condition

Just gotta keep looking HRP. There out there. Obviously mine needed a lot of attention but I only gave $200 for it. Stan at Vintage Trailers always seems to have a few on hand at pretty reasonable prices. You can reach him at 641-430-2752

    Nice work !

Working on one doesn't bother me but I almost bought one out of California that need a good bit of work but getting it hauled to South Carolina was more tan the trailer,,and yeah,I know they are out there but having a certain type your looking for does narrow down the field. HRP

Great camper! We have soft spot for Shasta's. We had a red n white 1963 Shasta several years ago. It lives in Japan now.

But we have a 1963 Airstream Globetrotter and my 16yr old son has a 1969 serro scotty of his own.
