New here also, My first car was a 50 merc coupe , bought for $125 Replaced a right fender ,added 3 inch lowering blocks my dad had made in the mill ,rebuilt the carb ,fender skirts from Sears catalog ( about $30.00 ) , replaced a blown overdrive planetary gear ($25) junk yd part ,installed dual exhaust , shaved the heads , and traded a paint job for a 57 chev radio. Had 56 olds fiesta caps on the front and sunvisor . we lived in Pittsburgh Pa, with some very cold winter nights , my dad would take my merc to work when his newer car wouldn't start. Wish I had that car today , but about a year ago I bought a 50 merc coupe off E bay($11500) that was all original. Bought fender skirts ($400), replaced the three speed trans with an overdrive trans ($400) , (sunvisor ($300), headers and a single glass pack ($400.), 2 inch lowering blocks , rebuilt the carb and repaired just about everything on the car including the radio. the best thing I now have on this car are the 56 olds fiesta caps I saved in a box for 50 + years. What goes around keeps going around!!!
