Did anyone catch the new episode of Pickers on Monday night? It was Oct 4th. Mike's Breakdown. The vintage village that they visited was where we hold the Symco Shakedown. My '57 Lincoln had a HUGE one second cameo in the beginning. We hung out there all day while they were filming and had lots of time to hang with Mike and Frank. Despite all the bad press they get here and elsewhere, they are great guys. As much as I like Mike and Frank, the plot was BS as Krooser sent them an email to get them here, they knew exactly what was here, what they were coming for, that Larry would sell some stuff and where we we located. They were in contact with us for close to a month before they actually came.
I thought that's where they were. Having never been there (yeah I know, I'm working on it), I wasn't sure if that was the place. The bar gave it away for me compared to all the pics I've seen from the Shakedown. JJSound has been playing there the last two years, so I'm trying to make a point to make it next year. Possibly bringing a ride the year after that.
huh didn't realize it. That is sure a cool place, I'd sure like to make it over there one of these times. That other guy's place on the show the guy with the service station in his house, man that is a cool place too.
i pried my eyes open knowing your car would be on there like you stated a while back ... i shouted thers cliffys car and every one else in the room said ... what? glad they did not take too much from that awesome place ... hmmm the site of the symco shake down ends in the american picker breakdown
Naw, that's BS. They lied about their whole trip there, and I am sure the breakdown was last week or the week before they shot or something like that. They filmed in Milwaukee area before us, not in Michigan. I did help them lift that printing press into the UHaul van they had with them however. They didn't mention the emails back and forth, the phone calls, the ADDRESS IN THEIR GPS! The entry and exit were staged and they only used about half the stuff they filmed and bought. Did anyone notice the Symco Shakedown Sticker on the back of the van when they loaded the neon sign. Not sure how that got there. LOL Here, you can watch it again:
its tv mike! its all fake!!! but cool seein your car on tv! sure miss that place!!! ....... next yr bro!
It wasn't all fake. Most of the video they shot was the first time they saw stuff. They didn't want to tour the grounds before the camera crew got there. They knew some of what was here, but for the most part, all the picking was real. The staged a couple of things after they found and picked them as they didn't get good camera shots the first time around. Mike paid with his own personal cash and the buying and selling was their only real income at the time they shot. Now I am sure it is a bit different, but the beginning of this season and all of last they certainly weren't rich celebrities. The real shame was they didn't use any of the general store shots, they had some really cool stuff in there.
I saw it and recognized the place right away as I always drive by there going back and forth to my motel in Clintonville while attending the Iola swap meet each year. It was very cool to watch. I wondered whose car that was.
