anybody have info on the 2 t-400 transmissions connected together for overdrive, and split the gear im guessing ?, I had seen a story about a 57 chev from wisconsin that ran that setup, I looked on the web and didnt find anything, I would like to see a pic of it and know why they may have gone this route, im guessing the weight, machine work, they could have gone to a gear vendors setup....
Unless you are the machinist, you are unlikely to survive the cost to have this produced, and it would far exceed any other alternatives, including a Gear Vendors overdrive, or a 6L80E with a standalone computer. Pay no mind the work that would need to be done internally, to get this assembly to function properly.
Its something Ive heard about in years past, and wondered how the did it, how it ran with out a convertor to turn the pump/fluid, and maybe some other silly info
2 4oo's coupled would not give you an overdrive what it would result in is lower gear ratio so what you would have is diff ratio 2.46 x 1st gear in trans #1 x 1st gear in trans#2 2.46 x 2.48 x 2.48 = 15.3 6.17 x 2.48 = 15.31
US Speed research in Cudahy wi, (my hometown) is what your looking for. The owners name is Ken Klazura, a very close friend of mine. PM me i can give you the details..... Ken has the patent on the end to end TH400 "the twin turbo" it can be built as a full automatic or a clutch turbo....
Hey Noclubjoe Can i also get the information on Ken from US speed research about TH400-TH400 I read about this in a old form 2013 Thanks (for my 55 gasser) Email rahbekamie@yahoo.dk
Sorry to say that Ken passed away August 13th. A true hot rodder and a great guy. Will be missed. RIP friend. Visitation at Max A.Sass & Sons-Oklahoma Chapel on Fri August 18 starting at 11AM until time of service at 1PM. Private interment at St. Adalbert Cemetery at a later date.
that 57 was in hot rod or car craft bell housing cut off second trans and two shifters, i remember it but like said the 700 r4 will be cheaper. damn i need to watch the dates, old thread.
Gear Vendor makes a tailshaft addon overdrive for various transmissions. In 1970, I bought a Hone_O_Drive from the company. At the time they were located in Santa Fe Springs CA, but I don't believe they are in business anymore. It is a standalone planetary transmission, that required matching the input universal to the output shaft, and shortening the driveshaft. It is still working.
It sounds like something out of the movies [like the Mad Max supercharger bullshit] Why not use a 4l80E with a stand alone controller [the 4l80E is tough like a T400] There would be less work in wiring the controller than stacking 2 trans together.
I agree. In 1970, when I was running a 396 against 4.57:1 gears, I needed something to make the truck streetable and there weren't any other good options other than switching to a quick change rear end. Presently, we are working on my son's 47 International 1/2 ton, and we are using a 400 sb, B&M 700r4, and a Ford 9 inch with an Eaton centersection. Much easier to hook up.
