i'm looking into getting/using a T-5 instead of the T-10 i've already got for the "T" project. i've read some websites about T-5's and they talk about older trannys having mechanical speedometer drives and newer ones have electronic speedometer drives. but nowhere that i can find tells me what years have which. i do have one '93 camaro T-5 spotted but they don't know what kind of speedometer drive it has. i've found in the last few years that the guys working bone yards are a lot like the local chain auto parts store help; if they don't know what year, make, model, power or non power steering, and what color the car is they don't have any clue if their part fits. i'd like to know before i do any more looking. tia.
I'm guessing a little. I think mech through '85. I bought a '90 and the electronic sender just bolted on, so I put in a mech drive from an old 3 speed. I don't know if the very latest T5 are like T56 with an electronic sender you can't remove, but Jagsthatrun.com has a $ conversion for T56. I'd say grab anything you can find for under $400. I paid $450 with B/h and slave and a half dozen Pull a Part trips turned up nothing.
I just added a T5 part number/ratio table to my website. It has limited information about speedo's... might be worth checking out. The information was provided to me by 59HGCommuter, a lurker on this board. home.earthlink.net/~edmurder/t5s2.htm
