Find a gentle blaster, and have him go at it. If you don't get the rust out of EVERY pit, you will be sorry when the paint bubbles up. Other than soaking the whole thing in acid of some sort, blasting is the only way to clean out those pits.
You have done a fantastic job so far and the car now has some real value so I would have it media blasted by a professional shop that knows what they are doing. I had a sedan delivery in a similar shape but not so pitted and the blasting made it like new again. Great save of a 5 window.
Thanks for the compliments and feedback. You guys helped me avoid a mistake. There is a good local blaster i will use. Eagle Auto Blasting in kansas.
Glad to hear you are going to have it blasted. You will not be sorry....$$$ well spent in the long run. Sure would like to see this ride. May-be ya can make it to KC GreeserRama in Sept. I will be there with my deuce roadster. Mayor Dennis of the Rolling Bones group
Nice looking car. I'm surprised you didn't have it blased once you cut out all the rotten junk. How did you stand welding thru all that rust when installing the subrails and lower patches? I hope the rust buried behind the areas you covered up doesn't come back to haunt you. Keep posting updates.
^^^ the pictures dont show it well, but i cleaned the areas for the new panels. Welding wasnt a problem. All panels were **** welded except the door skins. I wont have any hidden problems develop in my life time.
Im hopeful, but having the car ready by then will be a challenge. If not, I'm less then 10will minutes from the shows new location, you can come see it at the shop.
Well if ya don't make it to the event I might just have to work it in to come to the shop. See you in KC. Thank's for the invite.
Glad I caught up with your thread again. The car is really col as is but will be way cool!! when you get it back and much more fun to work on sheet metal when its nice and clean. The patina is awesome but has to go sooner or later. Tim
Not yet. I'm getting impatient. but having it out of the garage is letting me do some unfinished work on my Model A. (just little bugs i never finished because i've been driving it and working on the 32).
Got the coupe back from the stripper. Captain America helped me push it back in the shop. Got some holes to fill that blasting created, but pretty minor. getting close to primer ready. Also waiting on my wood kit.
Thanks guys. I am happy. Completely different car than what I started with. she is getting some life back in her. I am hoping to shoot some primer this weekend.
Not going to make to the drags this year with the 32. I will be driving my 29 A. Im a little bummed, i will pick a more realistic debut. JJ, your 33 is killer.
