I know this has been beaten to death but I have one last question after which I promise I'll never post of this again. In several posts about GM pumps and Ford power racks the T-bird rack is said to be compatible ( flow and pressure ) with the GM pump. Problem is , some say the early 80's T-Bird rack, others say the later T-birds. Can someone give me the years that are compatible ? There are a couple 80's T-Birds in a s**** yard a couple miles from me and I want to grab one as a core but want the correct one. Thanks, John PS Merry Christmas to All
can either of you, or anybody else that happens along tell me the difference between mII and t bird power racks? will they physically interchange? i plan on using a ford power steering pump. trying to keep it ford in a ford and affordable.
They do physically interchange, tie rods too. MII racks are getting harder to find, and have a lower flow rate demand than the later-model T-Bird rack, hence the valves, shims, flow reducers, for the MII rack (when used with a GM pump). The later model T-Brid rack has a compatible flow rate with the typical GM Saginaw PS pump. You will need to match the pump to whichever rack you use. If you use a MII rack, use that pump. If you use a T-Bird rack, use that pump.
I believe your right. Seems like I had to take a file to the holes when I replaced a Mustang rack with a t-bird.
Yup. Forgot about that. Oops. Not hard to file the hole. Many aftermarket MII setups have a slotted hole.
