Hey everyone, I'm looking to build my first T and I am planning on buying one of the Speedway 23 T bucket kits. My concern is that it seems like there are a whole lot of hoops to jump through with the DMV in Pennsylvania. I've downloaded the form(s) and read both the website and the forms. I am still a little confused on what all I am required to provide and who do I provide it to. I know I have to go to a special inspection station and I found a couple near me. I am not sure what all I need to have on the car though, like do I need fenders, what type of windshield etc. I was hoping that there was someone on here from Pa who has gone through this process already and could maybe give me some pointers to help breeze through the whole registration process. Thanks in advance, Eric
The SEMA is your friend: http://www.semasan.com/page.asp?content=tag_***le_toolbox&g=SEMAGA You may also find something here: https://www.sema.org/replica?__utma...mctr=(not provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=226835413
I only post it once a year the rest of the time I tell people to go look for it. LOL They update constantly as the laws change from what I have been told.
Just do everything you can to avoid ***ling the car as a current year construction like a 2016. That opens up a real can of worms.
You might want to look into a kit from Spirit Cars. Their kits come with an Arkansas ***LE, not just a bill of sale. Easier transfer to another state but I would still check with DMV about ***le transfer from Arkansas.
Receipts are the key. And make it easy for the people in Harrisburg. When I licensed mine I had a spread sheet with all the relevant information. It will be ***led as a Street Rod with no date or description. It won't say T-bucket or Model T or any manufacturers name. As far as the ***le goes it could be a 32 or 40 Ford, Chevy or whatever. Since it will be ***led as a Street Rod it doesn't need fenders, hood or bumpers. Things change but mine doesn't have heat shields. It does need seat belts and windshield wiper. In my avatar pic you can see the fuel filler. There is no floor under the fuel tank. I was told if the inspector looks up from underneath he has to see the fuel tank. Most kits come with a Manufacturers Statement of Origin. That should work. I didn't start with a kit. The body was from the manufacturer, receipt only. Ch***is was from a local street rod shop, again receipt only. Engine was built by my brother, again receipt. I also had receipts for all major parts, wiring kit, gauges, wheels, brakes, etc. I think you get the picture. You will have to pay PA sales tax for anything you did not pay sales tax on. Like out of state mail order. I did mine 11 years ago before the Enhanced Inspection process. I sent my paperwork to my local State Representative NOT to a Notary. More experienced people clued me in. I had a refusal and it only took about 5 1/2 weeks to get the plate from my first submittal. I didn't think it was hard at all. The guys I have seen with trouble are trying to not pay the sales tax! Someone with more recent experience may have a different experience though! Bill
Thanks for all the great info everyone. I appreciate it as this is all new to me. Bill (LongT) - I like the idea of the Spreadsheet. I will definitely do something like that. I know about the receipts. I have a buddy who is going to sell me the engine/trans. I told him I need him to sign something saying he sold me the motor for so much. Also, I see you're in Allentown. I'm not too far from you, in Catasauqua. If it's at all possible that I could take a look at your T in person and "maybe" even sit in it before I buy something I would be in your debt. Thanks again everyone Eric
