I got a 1926/27 T coupe body that I am getting some work started on and would be interested to see what folks have done with gas tank ideas.

Are there any ready made tanks that will work?
I see tanks on ebay for model A's but none for model T's...
I am hoping to run an external filler.

hi, what are your plans. truck bed? bobtail? they do make aftermarket oval model T tanks. im hoping to start a T come fall too.. and am gonna go with a bobtail look.. so the gas tank either a oval or a spun aluminum tank will sit above the buggy spring. if you go with a truck bed you could put one of the after market square tanks in it. lots of options but with out knowing your overall plans i am just throwing random input out there.

hah, im a idiot you said coup. yeah they make after market oval T tanks..

Sorry if I confused anybody, but I have a coupe and looking for gas tank options, so potentially it may go into the trunk.
Hope to channel it a little or sit on frame, maybe 32 style if on frame.

^^^^^VERY nice tank! I ran one too when mine was a streeter.

Hmmmmm...if you were closer I would cut you a deal on it since I won't be needing it anymore.

Look at the "in the frame" tanks now available. I saw one in a Model A coupe last week. It mounts just behind the differential and has a side or rear fill location. The capacity was 14 gallons.

    I have a 26/27 T Coupe too, that I'm collecting parts & ideas for.

I was thinking about using one of those Hot Rod Company T tanks w/ fill tube in the middle. I haven't mocked it up yet, so I don't know if it will work, but I was hoping to run the fill tube up through that circular cutout in the middle of the deck lid near the top. I've seen this done before on some sportcars, I think it would be cool to have the gas cap coming through the center of the trunk.

I'm also thinkng about trying to put my T Coupe body on '32 rails. Do you have a plan for how you are going to do it?

Well, our car started out as a coupe, so maybe this will translate a bit. I fabbed this tank out of aluminum, its two sections but one tank, and I am living with the filler in the trunk. It will mount to a firewall behind the seat, and should be about 12-13 gallons when done. It got complicated because I wanted room for a spare in the trunk. The aluminum bungs and filler neck are Speedway items and its made out of .080".

sorry its not ready made, but just puttin it out there for an idea

Sure is Paul and it is looking good body wise now, although it was always a pretty good body for starters.
Getting a full steel roof fitted and a couple of small rust out patches fixed.

Wow, it looks better---will make a nice car again...that was quite a road trip. One of my best buddies rode with me and we drove at night sleeping an hour or two in the truck and arriving at daylight on this dairy farm where it was located. Then we headed north about 35-40 miles and had breakfast with my Dad at his Missouri town. Since then, both my friend Fred and my Dad have p***ed away. I'm glad you still have it and are fixing it up.

No plans yet for certain, but have taken an interest in how this T coupe is setup on 32 rails.
I also recall somebody else on the HAMB doing a thread on a build using 32 rails.

Paul you are the only guy who could have found the T coupe with those weird directions I was given. Local knowledge sure can count for a lot at times.
Yes, I hope to keep this one in the family, so it sounds like it could be in memory of both of your nearest and dearest kin.

you might need a little imagination for this one. My gas tank is in a vertical position behind the back of the front seat....................if you squint your eyes real tight you can almost see it :p

Filler neck is from the back..........not normally held in place with tape ( show requirement )

I used '32 rails on my '27 roadster. It's basically a build totally from scratch affair. Started with aftermarket rails and built all crossmembers from scratch.

I have drawings and photos if your interested.

  20. I'd like to see that.

  21. Hows your legroom without the seat all the way back? T coupes (Ts period) are pretty small...

I think a few of us here would be interested to see the 32 rail stuff.
You are welcome to post it here or start your own thread if you would prefer.

I wouldn't say stolen, just relocated to share, so those who havn't seen them can:)

When i do my T coupe i will run a custom made tank under the flush trunk floor and about a 1/4 of it out past the end of the body, 32 inspired. I will have a cross/spreader bar for a bit of protection. I would like to keep as much trunk room as possible for future trips to the salt and dirt:D
