dunno what it is, but definitely not ford. the back seat is waaaay too big; the hood & radiator shell have a crease at the edges; the headlights are pretty much cylindrical; the front fenders and hood are waaaay too long; etc. cool history of the house and the movie "Giant" here. i saved the pic and zoomed in on it trying to recognize the center of the hubcap but when i got it big enough to see the resolution was shot. never could make it out. also tried the radiator cap but it got fuzzy too.
Has anybody seen this car running around the RENO area? I miss it and wondered how it is doing? Thanks, Tim
Not a T...or a Packard it's a 1920 to 23 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost (American built, left hand drive). I don't think it's a 40/50, too big...and it's certainly not a Phantom I, which did not appear until 1925..this is an early 20's Rolls.
i want to say chevy but not 100% .....i think he bolted truck wheels on it ,,,,,the part of the story i remember is he bought it at an auction, absentee bid , , got it,put those wheels on it and drove it home to from victoria .b.c. 300 miles over a huge pass....never skipped a beat he said , it was in storage for years before. he has 100s of cars this one gets a prominent spot ......lots of people know the car, i hope they can i.d.
Jerry... Lotsa work on the frame jig. You kept the Tub in proportion...FEW DO! Nice work...that little Ford mill is longer than a story, so you must have had issues. Great fit.
Cheers Dave - well the '27 Mercury is on the road now, well until later when I'm swapping in my B motor... And finally time to see if the top actually folds back down. Henry's 'one-man top' took three blokes but tada!
How rare do you think original top irons for a 26/27 touring are? I haven't begun looking but I'd be interested in a set once my touring is home. BTW, I love this car.
Cheers Brent - actually I think they're repro ones from Snyders. Or somewhere similar. I've noticed I had the irons better adjusted in this photo than when I actually built the top. Damn....
Brought the body home yesterday and place it on the frame hours ago. I've decided that no more projects come home until I get some done. That is, unless a 28/29 roadster comes along.
please don't put a folding top with original irons on your car unless you do it in such a way that you can quickly remove the entire top (such as to leave it at home or to take the top into the motel room when you arrive at a show). an original "T" touring top in the down position is about the ugliest thing imaginable on a hot rod (just my opinion, of course).
Motel room at a show? It's a whole different world! I'll just have to drag my ugly old top round with me for the seven shades of weather we get in a day....
Actually, I love the look of a folded top on the back of a touring or roadster - always have. To me it's jaunty.
I see your point but I don't plan on mine being a show car. It's going to be a functional little family hot rod (with a severe chop). To add to this, it's nice having a roof you can take down and enjoy the day, but it's also nice to put a top UP, too. In my case, I see a lot of folks at the salt driving their roadsters with big umbrellas. I'd rather just put the roof up. I agree.
