I'm about to start building a t track roadster strict for track use. Nothing streetable. The front end, engine and body are mocked up so far. But before I go any further, I would like to review an article about a blue and white painted 23-25 roadster (flathead, 39 box etc...)that was published in a early-mid 90's rod & custom or hot rod magazine. Unfortunatly I don't find that magazine no more in my stash. So if anybody knows what mag or has some pictures or such, it would be a great help.
The car that comes to mind it the 23-25 T that Brock Yates restored and ran in Vintage races, I did a quick Google search but found nothing. I saw the car run, and seam to remember SoCal or Pete & Jake did the restoration.
Brock Yates' resto was done to the Duffy Livingston Eliminator. It was originally built as a track roadster (flathead powered T for dirt oval track racing), and converted to a road racer with a Chevy smallblock in the '50s. It was fast enough to piss off some import drivers, and looked wicked to boot. Google "Duffy Livingston Eliminator" and you'll find text and pictures.
If the Livingston roadster is the car in question, look on Amazon for a book, I suspect now out of print, ***led " The Hot Rod, resurrection of a legend" by Brock Yates. Motorbooks is the printer, and the ISBN # is 0-7603-1598-1 It is a wealth of information with several photgraphs of the car. Would be an easy car to replicate, and an absolute ball to drive.
Here is a good link to the history on the Livingston car.http://streetrodder.automotive.com/50917/0402sr-eliminator/index.html
Looks good mate! Excellent The magazine you want is a mid ninties Rod & Custom that has Jake working on the Niekamp roadster on the cover - that blue/white Tardel T is in there I am sure of it. Email me at greg@nzhotrodmag.co.nz if you like
Thanks my friends, this was good advice. I will see if I can get B. Yates book, altough I have the other track roadster book from Don Radbruch which is also very informative, but doesn't have many detail pictures. And Greg, I think you gave me the right tip with the rod and custom mag from the 90's. I'll shoot you a mail tomorrow when I'm back on my own computer.
I'm lovin that workshop - Wow, and a Pit - double wow. What wheels are they??, any chance of a better pic. I thought it was the mag with the guy with the MULLET working on a red track nosed T with scallops, thinking about it I think the Niekamp roadster was behind it in the pic. With the Spaulding Bros 25 T in the little pages at the back. Not that I can really help as my scanner is stuffed. I'll look later & see if I can dig it up. Funny - I can't remember what happened yesterday, but I can remember a magazine I looked at 5 years ago
Thanks for the compliments on the shop. It used to be a former fork lift repair shop, so the pit was standard. I had a far cooler shop some 10 years ago, but it was too small, rented and at the end they did tear down that building in 2003. Big shame....... Now the wheels are no big deal, homemade with early centers and 15" rims. Just good for the mock up, because it would take a ton of lead to balance them. I'm going to use 39 wheels and brakes on the track T.
Ok, I got all the pictures from Greg (foreverfour). Great !!!!!!! So we are settled now to get that project going.
Ok Michael, front end is in, just need a set of long perches. 32 heavy front axle, 39 style brakes, 46 split bones. Next week we gonna fit the rear end, which is also 46 and if time allows it the transmissin mount. Thats all for now....
