How different are the ford and Chevy t10s? Do they share anything? I realize that the bolt pattern if different, but is the input shaft different as well? Sorry if these are simple questions. I haven't messed with manual ******s much. I'm collecting parts for a 5 bolt 289. They use the early ford bolt pattern. Early t10s seem to be hard to find. So I have been brainstorming a little. The Chevy ******s pop up from time to time, so I figured I better research this a little. When buying a used ******, what should I look for to make sure it is good condition? Just spin it and run it through the gears? Should I pull the cover?
As far as I know the inputs are different in addition to the case. mounting points as well. and even if you get a chevy ****** I guess you'd have to make an adapter plate? as far as looking at used ones I'd always try to pull the cover, look for chipped teeth on the gears, very worn syncros and alot of slop on the input/output. I've got an early T10 from a falcon and am going to look at one from a 64 galaxie on monday. I agree that the later ones do come up a bit more but the earlt ones are out there, esp with so many going to 5 speeds now. also there was a 64 toploader in the cl***ifieds, $400 I think. It should have the weak 25 spline output but might be OK depending on what you want it for. or you could upgrade to a 28 spline mainshaft.
also this is a helpful site for the T10 and it has a super t10 (second design) pdf manual too.... http://fiedlerh.home.att.net/BW.htm
