I've been looking for info on which to use. Is the Speedway just a knock off of the Offenhauser?

Is one better than the other?
Any and all info is appreciated.

Everything Speedway sells is a ripoff or knock-off of someone else's hard work. Support Offenhauser.

I was kinda thinking along those lines anyway. The photos and some reviews I have found look like the Offenhauser adapter needs to be notched out for the starter nose.

    is this true?

I used the Speedway adapter. No problems with it.

I bought the adapter plate that Dwight Bond sells direct from him along with the pilot bushing and shaft adapter to hook the Model A linkage to the truck Hogshead. I already had the hogshead on the back of the engine so that wasn't an issue but they are easy to find.

This was why I couldn't find the answer doing a search on this question. Everyone tells me to buy something other than what I was asking a question about.

Not trying to be a jerk, but I wasn't asking what was available, I was asking what the difference between these two are.

A lot of the Speedway Motors branded products are rebranded Offy items under a licensing agreement.

I'll answer your question with this addendum to my post#7. The only difference I could see is that one has "Speedway" cast in it, the other has "Offenhauser".

When I was purchasing mine there was alot of confusion (4 years ago)
I called Speedway and asked if theirs was cast from an Offenhauser unit. They hemmed n hawed and eventually said that it was....
THEN she went on to say, "wait, I cant sell it to you. Our (speedway) units have been put back into research and development"

I got frustrated, cashed in some extra cans, and ordered everything from cornhuskers.

As far as I am concerned, the two are the same. Its sort of a pain in the ass to have to order all the parts seperately.

A few years back, Offy was slow as molasses in January, when it came to getting things out to dealers,... After waiting almost a month,I ended up buying a bell housing with "speedway" cast into it,. and it's just fine.

I too bought the Speedway adapter and it worked fine. For the record, I ground off the Speedway logo. Not that it made a difference, I just thought it looked cleaner without a logo.

  19. bought the cornhusker"kit",most of the parts were from speedway?!,the bellhousing was an offy unit with the "offy" name ground off..had to notch it when i used it with a merc mid bellhousing for starter snout clearance

    Made in CHINA ???????

That alone would cause me not to purchase it for an American Hot Rod

Since you live in SoCal, take a run up to Alhambra Blvd. and see for your self that Offy stuff is NOT made in China.

  25. The flathead adapter I bought from Speedway a couple years ago was in a Speedway box, and when I opened it up, it was marked Offenhauser...
I haven't got quite that far in the build, but I did a test fit and it seemed to fit pretty good into the bell housing and matched up with the mounting holes in the T-5...

I never said it was...hence the question marks on the end. I'm actually wondering if the Speedway adapter is made in China.,,, it wouldn't surprise me

If you had clicked the V8 sidebar right below Model A & B sidebar you would have seen their adapters also available for flatheads....

Well, if the Speedway part is made in China, it's proof that the Chinese can make a quality part. However, I don't think it's of Chinese origin.

I think most of us here do that, but just because you can doesn't mean you should. I buy many of the parts that I could build. The amount of time I can allocate to a project has to be weighed against the price of the part, so I buy what's readily available at a reasonable price and fabricate what I can't buy. I guess I could buy a variety of hex stock and machine my own nuts -- or not.
