help with frame clearance should original tranny mounts be removed and frame trimmed to allow fit of chevrolet t5
Several How To's on here. The T5 is a common installation and requires a little modification but not much. Do a search.
after you cut the nose cone down on the trans and drill the mounting holes to 1/2 inch, you remove the middle of the X member on the frame, and then install the speedway wishbone mount/trans mount for 35 ford. you then take the stupid stock shifter arm off, put a 1 inch spacer under the shifter. take the shift arm assembly apart and then move the pivot shaft up one inch, weld on the 35 shifter arm. make the driveshaft.
I read all 14 pages of T5 posting "Ultimate T-5 Article" and only found 1 reference to trimming the nose cone (page 5 "I'm thinking about putting the T-5 behind a 283 V8"). For a flathead, the common adapters which use the ford crosshaft arm and stock throwout bearing doesn't appear to require a nosecone modification based on reading the Speedway help doc or other internet articles I have found. A special pilot bearing and a clutch that eliminates flywheel bolt interference seems to be the the biggest difference from stock components other than the engine/trans adapters for a flathead T5 setup.(http://www.flatheadv8.org/t5-swap.htm) Is nosecone trimming required for some specific T5 models like the later WC or it depends on the throwout bearing setup and engine/flywheel? im talking about the cone that holds the front seal and bearing in, that the throwout bearing rides on. i also vaguely remember pressing a sleeve over it im not sure if it is for the fords or the chevys tho been a while.
