Hello all, just joined.. but have found many answers to issues I have previously had on here in the past.. so here goes my latest problem & hopefully someone can help. I will be installing a T5 transmission in my 51 Mercury M1 this winter that I picked up with a 8bA flathead. This was used together previously before I bought it. What I noticed was the clutch release shaft is only about halfway through the bushing on passenger side of the speedway adapter when fork is centered in the throw out bearing. It is the 11” shaft with the tab on the end. If the shaft is all the way over & through the bushing the fork is not centered.. it is like it needs to have another hole drilled in the shaft ? I know I must be missing something? & obviously it ran like this before.. but it doesn’t seem right.. has anyone ran into this before or have suggestions?

Speedway copied the Offenhauser adapter which had the same problem. I sold 100's of T5 kits with the short shaft before I started making my own. I have since been working with a different manufacturer that makes the bellhousing that uses the stock shaft.

Ok, good to know. The shaft is long enough on mine..( still about 1/2” on the drivers tab end sticking out, but it’s the hole for the fork that isn’t centered for this housing. If I was to drill another hole it would be very close to the original hole for the pin & I am worried it would be a weak spot & break

Would the new hole (if done) be near the source if input leverage or would the old hole by near the source input of leverage?

The hole would be in the centre of the shaft to hold the fork for the throw out bearing in place.. so output leverage

So are you saying the old original hole would end up on the passenger side of the transmission’s input shaft?

Yes, about 1/4” over from where I would drill out a new hole
