Hey guys. The 3 speed in my flathead powered pick up is trashed so rather than replace it with another one I am thinking of doing a 5 speed conversion using a GM T5. I have read loads of the tech articals on here about doing it (cheers flat Ernie!) so know what is involved but what I am interested in is seeing some pictures of how people have mounted the T5 box in a 32 ch***is. i.e. how the x members were modified and what the new mounting bracket looks like. I will be retaining the wishbones as they are, doing an open drive conversion and using some form of torque bar. Anyone got pics of how they did it? Thanks Gavin
I`m in the process of building a `32 roadster, it has a 276 ci flatty and a T5 box combo.I have kept as much of the original k member as possible and made a secondary crossmember and connecting rails to maintain the structural integrity.I`m keeping the unsplit w`bone and running a Spadaro QC out back, mounted via ladder bars mounted off the new crossmember.I trimmed as much as was needed for clearance from the original K member and reinforced the bottom of the k member cradle where the ball socket is with a 1/4"plate, again to impart as much strength as posible into the modified k member. The new crosmember shows a small raised section in the middle..I thought I would need this for clearance, and transfered it from the cut out section of the original K member, but as it turns out, it is more of a hinderance than a help, so that will be going. If you need to speak about it, pm me and I`ll send you my number.

Cheers reefer. Just what I was looking for. Still 50/50 as to whether I will fit a 5 speed in at this moment in time although it is something I always planned to do. Tempted to just get another decent 3 speed, drop it in and enjoy the truck for a bit as I haven't had the opportunity yet! Decisions decisions
Here are some links from a few posts I made. http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188665&highlight=t5 The following link show the K-member installation on page 8 of this post. http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=179814&highlight=member&page=8
Here's a few of my t-5 install. You should be able to see how the bones are attached. Mine are split and I used weld-in bungs and made my own mounting tabs with tapered holes. Also, there's a few pics of my torque arm here... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=293274
