Has anyone done a T5 S-10 trans swap into a 46 Ford Truck? Like to know what the hurdles are going to be. Going behind a 8BA Flathead thanks
Yep, just finished two of them. No real hurdles, I use a 49-53 Chev truck xmember from speedway, it's 35.5" wide. Bolts right into the frame, buy a trans rubber mount, job done. You will have to cut the center of the existing xmember out for the trans to go thru. The shifter will be moved back, about 3" from the back trans cover bolt hole. Easy to cut, patch the stock hole. I use the speedway trans kit, if you use a different kit, my thoughts might not match. If you have troubles, just PM me.
No, I use the stock master cylinder location for a dual mc. It's close to the frame so it doesn't deflect. There is plenty of room if you want to weld something on the top of the cut xmember.
Thanks for the info. yes I have the speedway bell conversion. I will be pulling apart today, but it wasn't clear to me if the "stock" pressure plate will work. saw one spot where the clutch fingers would need to be cut to clear the adapter. Is this a possibility? Are you using a round rubber mount or the standard rectangle?
also the T5 I have has a electronic speedo - Tone ring style. Can that be adapted to mechanical? Currently not planning to change from 6 volt system.
well that is what I thought as well seems it would certainly change the apply force or at least engagement. is there a different lower profile pressure plate to use, if this is an issue?
Follow your adapter kit instructions. You use a stock FH pressure plate, s-10 disc. Stick with 10" stuff and it fits just fine, the instructions are pretty easy to follow. Kato Kings here on HAMB can convert your electronic speedo to mechanical, he did one of mine. Or use GPS speedo, or use GPS app on your phone.
After building two of these trucks, I advise re-enforcing the factory crossmember with something above and below after cutting it for tranny clearance. There is a lot of flexing with that ladder style frame as it is. There will be some flexing to the left side of the cut crossmember when actuating the brakes. Also keep in mind there will also be flex induced from the steering box. Couple that with the fact there will be quite a span between the front crossmember and the one aft of the cab, it is too much. The new crossmember for your tranny mount isn't going to be sufficient to keep frame flex under control on it's own.
Hello, I'd like to purchase a short throw shifter for my S-10 T-5 transmission. Any contact for Kato Kings? Thanks. Ryan
