For a truck you might think about a nv 3500 from a pickup.

The T56 has the same gear-spread as a lot of T5's, contrary to popular belief.

It just has more stops in that spread, with a much better spacing.

They do, however, require a different rear end ratio, to make everything equal.

I was more thinking of the torque rating, gotta be a reason GM only put the T5's behind the 305's, and not the 350's.

True, but then he'd be looking at a rear gear change, too.

    I'm about to swap out an S10 T5, with a 3.76-0.72:1 ge****t, for a T56, with a 2.66-0.50:1 ge****t.

To keep things equal, the rear gear is going from 3.55:1, to a wopping 5:13:1.

    Combined ratios:
    3.76 x 3.55 = 13.348
    2.66 x 5.13 = 13.646

    0.72 x 3.55 = 2.556
    0.50 x 5.13 = 2.565

First gear ends up being a teensy bit lower. Top gear, very close to equal.

Good point, I didn't realize the T56 had such a tall first gear compared to the T5.

What kind of HP and TQ are you running?

T-5's are kinda light weights in the torque catagory unless you put an Astro Performance gear set and tailshaft in them. Then they'll take about 400-450 ft/lbs. in a light weight car.

I broke a couple of them NWC's before I put in a WC with Astro Performance gears. Tony will take good care of you! http://www.astroperformance.com/about_us.php

If you go beefing on it in a 3500 lb. truck and it hooks up, you might be in for a surprise.
