I put a T5 behind the Y Block in my 56 victoria several years ago. Needed adapter plate, cross member and longer drive shaf. What is needed to put one behind a sbc in 55 chebbie that now has M21. Have located a T5 from v-8 Camaro, is that the one needed? TC Austin, TX
If the T5 has a 26 spline input shaft, it's the one you want (World Class, or WC). Only change inside the bellhousing is clutch disc (if currently coarse spline ). Mounting holes in trans case need to be openedup to 1/2". Not certain about the rest in a tri-five, but I think trans mount needs to slide rearward a bit, driveshaft shortened, and work out shifter location. If the shifter is gonna wind up under the seat (and it may), you can swap the tailshaft for one from an S10 to move the shifter location forward. Do a search, most of this is covered in previous posts (albeit more regarding putting T5's behind other engines in other chassis). Flat Ernie on here probably is the best resource.
Can't search for T5 or even T-5 - won't find anything - search engine won't do 2 letter searches & for some reason, doesn't consider the hyphen a character for the purposes of searching. There's also nothing in the tech archives strangely enough - despite this being a near weekly question. Here's a recent post of mine - the link is a thread where the last posting has loads of links to posts with T5 info (I subscribe to them so I can find them again later). http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=151131
