just finished my transmission wc camaro gear box wc s10 tail conversion. did a dry run with the camaro trans to original 235 bell housing making sure it fits nicely before i did the conversion. got all my stuff ready to assemble the trans to the motor. before i install the motor/trans into the 57 chevy truck i have been pondering whether or not to add a transmission crossmember. when i pulled the motor, out came the saginaw 3 speed attached to it. knowing that the motor was balanced on its 4 motor mounts and the little trans dangled off the back of the bellhousing like a monkey on its back. when i replace the rubber mounts for the motor should i install a new transmission crossmember for the T5 or let it hang off the back of the bellhousing just using grade 8 bolts? the two transmissions seem to be roughly the same weight too.

Lots of Munice's etc were mounted that way without any trans mount with no problems and they were heavier also.

  3. Agreed, a Freightliner FL 70 straight truck has a massive Eaton 5/6 speed hanging without any crossmember support. The T5 will be just fine, I run mine with giant New England pot holes and it is still hanging around.
