Hi to all Hambers!!! Putting a t85 od in a 56 f100 with 272 y-block. The trans we have is from an early 60s car and the input shaft is too short. I understand that correct input shaft is rarely found or available. Searching online i find mention of using an extended pilot bushing as a way of remedying this issue. Finally the question: Anybody know of a source for this bushing???? Thanks in advance for all info!!!

If you can't find what you need off the shelf, it would be a simple matter for any competent machine shop to make for you, given the dimensions.

It will have to be custom made. As Heathen said, it is not difficult to do. As a plus, you are in the land of corn and cows, so plenty of farmers with lathes sitting in their workshops and plenty of machine shops that service that clientele.

  4. How much short? If you're trying to make up a larger amount, you may run into interference with the clutch hub. How long are the inputs that you have?

T85/T89s were used in mid-'50s- '60s Ford, Studebaker, Packard, IH, a few Mopars and a few GMs.

Swapping input shafts is tricky because there are both different lengths and different gear ratios, depending on whether you've got a T85 or a T89. (BTW - all cases have T85 cast into them.)

Give us your input shaft length, spline count, pilot input diameter and length and we'll guess what you've got.
