Didn't know if anybody was interested, but I found this pretty neat. I needed a tach cup for an old Sun gauge and I didn't want to spend the money to buy one. I looked around the garage and found some old bicycle lights and liked the shape. It has a hood and little louvers on the underside. It was as simple as gutting the light and slapping the tach in there. You press the little button on the side and the front swings open for removal. I'll probably cut a little gasket to fill the gap, but it fits snug as is.
i hope you didn't have to swipe that off your kids bike, but its a good idea and it looks cool with the hood
Mine is a re-pop of an old Delta light....$20 at a bike shop NEW,but considered "old stuff". Hit up your local bike shop, flea market..... Should be real cheap. Avoid swap meet stuff, unless it's under the $20 mark ,as everything old bike everyone thinks it's gold! I gutted mine, slipped in my OT tach, and good to go. Look at ten speed lights, plenty of pickin's...... Should be easy breazy. I just thought of it one day to hide my tach, and low and behold........
Way to go Monkey.......you just sent the cost of early bicycle headlights through the roof...... Seriously, very nice idea. Looks great!
I have another but it is a little bit smaller diameter. I've picked up a handful at Antique Stores for $5 a piece.
I just got a good transmitter box for the tach. I'm running HEI on my 250 six. Can I hook the DIST wire straight to my distributors tach hookup? All the instructions I can find are for points.
Great minds think alike: I had a similar setup for oil and water gauges on my C Cab for a while. Sure looks better than a standard "flat" cup.
Hope my son doesn't see this. He's been wanting a light for his bike, and knows where I keep my stash of old Sun tachs.......
