Putting some Lee's lens on my friends '54 Chev and we want to replace the back-up light bulb with a single filament bulb that will match the candle power of the tail light filament of the 1157 stop/tail bulb. Would think some bulb specs would be on the 'net somewhere; but have not really found an answer. So I was wondering if anyone here has the info or remembers what they used? Thanks
Thanks Steve, just what I needed. Not exactly, usually the front bulb is a dual filament like an 1157, low for park and high for signal. If you are working on an older car with single contact sockets the 1155 Steve mentioned would work, if you do away with the parking light function and convert them to signals a higher candle power bulb like the 1156 will work. If you retain the single contact sockets and use them for both signals and park lights thru relays or whatever, you need to use the lower candle power bulbs as a high candle power bulb used as a park light can easily melt plastic lenses. Signal won't be as bright; but your lights will survive.
Yep, that's a true story. Even with gl*** lenses, the high retained heat will sharply reduce bulb life.
