Hey guys so I have a 55.2 Chevy pickup and want to so custom tail lights I was thinking of the 59 caddy lights but you see them on a lot of hot rods What are you suggestions to different style taillights? Here is what I am working with Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
How about frenching some '54 Chevy passenger car tail lights into the rear fenders? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I think I'm goin to French what ever lights I'm just trying to get ideas and pics of different tail lights Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I think 53 or 54 Buick lights mounted on the fender would look good.. Even 50 Pontiacs if you can't find the Buick's...
If you're not running a bumper how about `65-ish Impala, 3 on each side mounted in a rollpan? Gives you rev. lights, too.
What I did on my 49 GMC years ago, was cut down an El-Camino bumper (tailights already in the bumper.) Sort of made a roll-pan type of thing out of the bumper, but it still functioned as a bumper. It's kinda an old school approach, and not sure folks do that much anymore, but it wasn't un-common and it worked very well on those truck bodies, and gave it a custom tail light look, and very functional. This is a picture before it was painted, and I had the bed and running boards off the truck doing some filling on them, but you get the gest of it I reckon. I'll see if I can find some old pictures of it when it was done. Also if you prefer round lights, go with like a 73 or so el-camino that had 2 (ea side) impala or belaire style lights in the bumper. Cutting and welding it back down, I also stripped the rubber bumper pad off of it, shaved the through bolts that generally showed, filled all that, and welding the mounting bolts to the back of the bumper so it mounted up without the bolts showing as they did on the el-camino (but they covered them up with the rubber strip). I wanted it smoother and cleaner, so filled all that. It was an easy weekend project other then painting to match the truck sheetmetal which came later. For these bodies for it to look right I had to cut about 10" out of the center, the ends where they wrapped around had to do some cutting and re-forming slightly to get it to fit up close and around so it looked right. But when it was done, it really fit nice, and looked right.
I think it all depends on what your style is going to be for the truck. Chopped, custom pant with scalops, custom grille, would look look good with tunneled Caddy bullets, Basicly stock bodied, no.etc.
