Technical Tail light problems

    51 shoebox with 69 camera clip, gm column. Lost brake lights changed switch, no joy! Checked switch connector, one side reads 12v, other turns brake lights on when 12 v applied. Install switch, nothing. Switch checks ok with meter.

    Not sure I’m following you, but if I am, it’s a bad switch, just because it ohms ok , doesn’t mean it will carry a load. Bones

    Check the white wire at the turn signal switch connector for voltage with the brakes applied, if you have voltage there your brake switch is working. If you have voltage at the white wire you should have voltage at the green and yellow wires also, if not you turn signal switch probably needs replaced.

    Just reread your post, sounds like your brake lights are working if you jump voltage to that side of the switch? Check the voltage reading on the 12v side of the brake light switch plug when you apply the brakes, you may be losing voltage before the switch for some reason.
