History Tail-lights and fender skirts for a period-correct 55 custom?

    Hello.

I have now installed 15" chrome smoothies and 3.25" whitewalled Coker Classic cross ply tyres on my 52 Victoria. I have lowered it to 145mm from the ground and want to (and probably will in time) lower it further.

I have purchased smoothie wheel covers from HUBCAPMIKE.COM (http://hubcapmike.com/smoothie_hubcaps.html) like in the beautiful black Ford convertible (see my second post below) and on Jerry Quesnel's awesome 52 Victoria (http://www.kustomrama.com/images/8/8e/Jerry-quesnell-1952-ford.jpg).

Now it's time to alter my tail-lights (see attached picture below of my existing tail-lights) to a more flattering for the car and 55 period correct custom tail-light, add fender skirts, and repaint to a more appropriate colour scheme of a 55 custom - probably black.

    1. What tail-light would you recommend for a 55 custom that would suit my car? Or would you go back to the original like appears to be on Jerry Quesnel's 52 Victoria?
    2. Where do I get identical fender skirts like on Jerry's 52?

    Thanks,
    Dave

And are the smoothie hub caps from HUBCAPMIKE.COM the same as those on Jerry's 52 and the black convertible above?

No, not the same. The old once on Jerry's Ford had a nice lip inside which make them a LOT more attractive than the modern once.

Thanks Rik. Can you buy ones like Jerry's?

What about the ones on the black Ford? Are they like the ones from HUBCAPMIKE?

  6. Those look like '49-'51 skirts on the '52.

    49-51 what?

Can you buy 49-51 replica skirts anywhere?

I have '56 Olds lenses in '53 Ford bezels on my '52 Ford, that's been the most popular tail light swap into 52-54 Fords since the mid 50's. But since your quarters are already so far modified from stock, you could go with anything.

55ish Packard Clipper are also a very nice looking tail light on a 52-54 Ford car, if you can find a donor to use a piece of the quarters and the lights. (not the big, pointy '57 lights, but the version before those). I'm sure I have a picture somewhere of those installed on a 52-54 if you want me to dig one up.

  9. Skirts... '49-'51 Ford. I don't think anyone is repopping the smooth ones, but they are pretty common on the various auction sites.

I think the skirt Jerry is using on his 1952 Ford is more something like THIS.

A stock 1949-51 Ford unit will not fit without work. The body crease from the quarter panel is missing in those.

  15. Good call Rik, I missed the body line and only looked at the overall shape.

here are two pics of Packard Taillights - unfortunately still on the Packard rear, but you get the idea. I will keep ;looking to see if I can find a pic of a 52-54 Ford with these installed.

The white one above is the style tail lights I like, I need to find a set of those for my '53. Damn good looking and they work so well with those quarter panels.

These '54 Olds fender caps look great on clifforddean's shoebox. (I don't know why his thread got moved.) They should be right at home on your '52.

  25. Got to agree. Those Packard sore thumb taillights look great on darn near everything. Better even than the bigger ones, in my humble opinion.

Did 55 Packard tail lights on my 54 ford they look good. It also extended the rear quarters about 7 inches.

Since you are in Australia it may be hard to find Packard lights but what about Chrysler. Not sure what was available there but if the 56 New Yorker style tail lights were available, they would look great and seem to fit your rear quarter opening well. Here is a pic

For a little bit more in shipping cost, you could have the skirts sent to a trustworthy Hamb member in the US and then he could ship them to you.

  29. Fender Skirt King will ship worldwide...

Thanks guys. I have been directed to these and have been advised they are the same as the ones on KCP and Jerry's:
