I'm back on this project and may have a solution.

I'm considering a custom output shaft that plugs into the splines for the final drive.

Did you consider the hole in the center of the short, splined stub that connects to the original final drive? We are considering tapping the hole for bolting down an output shaft, but we are concerned that it will cause problems for the flow of fluid, if that's what the hole is made for.

    Thoughts?

The hole is not for fluid flow.

The case openings allow lubricant to flow to the governor gear, and to any bushing you might add.

The original female output is 33-splines. Not a spline common to much but certain axles.

The quick and dirty would be to source a 33-spline axle, and turn down and spline the adjacent shaft to 32-splines, to use TH400 stuff.
