Nah, no meds involved, just typed under the influence of feminin logic and a head ache (one and the same?). My "old days" experiences were that the meeting point was always just that, where everybody kinda hooked up and went out to see what the evening would bring. For me it was allot of setting up races, or it was "what are we going to eat?". When there was a show or something in another part of town, it beccame " let's caravan over to that". I never stayed stationary too long down there. I think that's why I'm so confounded by the current definition of a "cruise night".
I'm thinking that McDonalds needs some business thrown their way. Otherwise they might start bitchin about cars filling their parking lot and getting no business out of it. Later jim
Absolutely! That was cardinal rule #1 on the original thread we were working with for this deal. I always make sure to BUY something from mcdonald's even if it's just a drink. Then I also make sure to throw it away when I'm done. I'm thinking that was rule #2. Both of these reasons were key in Central being shut down 20 years ago.
I also get something every visit to McDonalds. Have a project in the am, hope I can make it sat night. Tank is pretty empty so may not.
I am not sure if i should push my luck with my tires after one gave out on me today and currently i have a spare tire that is probably older than i am, but i will try to be down there. With Bonneville going on, a few guys are there. Last night at 51st ave and bell it showed
im all for grabbing some good grub somewhere. just let me know where to go. meet at mcdonalds? or go somewhere first.
Lets all meet at McDonalds first,,then decide. Honey bears BBQ is right down the road. Maybe Mrs Whites Golden rule cafe? Can decide once we are there at McD's
To bad about the pictures, that old Pontiac and the others would have been a nice post. There is always this week, we will see how it turns out. Have a great rest of the week.
Dont know if there will be much on Central this saturday due to the support ralley for speedworld raceway. It starts at 6 pm & goes till 1-2 am out at speedworld. http://speedworlddragstrip.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Cruisin-for-a-cause.jpg
I do hope a lot of people show up for the speed world support that is for sure, we need more than one Drag Strip in this town. To top it off I won't be making it either, one of the guys at work father passed and I was called in for Saturday 2nd shift. But carry on and we will just have to have twice as much fun next week. Take care Guys
Looks like I will be out at Speedworld saturday. Firebird is probably closing also. The indian res raised the lease prices again & the manager said screwum!! & is looking for property to build his own place. So if both Speedworld & firebird both close, that only leaves Southern raceway east of Tucson. There is also in the works a new strip to be built out at Lake Havisu. If new tracks are built, you are probably looking at 3-5 years before they are open.
I'd heard that the operator of Firebird was looking in to building a new facility out in Casa Grande.... no bueno. I'd also heard tales of other investors stepping in to take over Firebirds current location if the operator leaves. Tough to say though, the rumor mill is always a cruel mistress. Sure hope Speedworld hangs on, that place was fantastic.
I have had a lot of good times at Speedworld, just like the good times I have had on Central. I don't know how to do this, but there must be a way to let the people we vote for know, they might not get or vote next time around if they don't work with us. Just like Central we pay taxes and we should be heard if we want to cruise leave us alone, If there is a problem at the track work with us. Its just not that hard to get along.
Speedworlds issues are only with the additions on the property and the maintenance to the dirt tracks. if they don't get those issues resolved they should still be able to run the drag strip. None of the issues are with it. They may not make the money they did before, But less maintenance costs and less electrical/water bills as well as less employees may help counter to drop in revenue enough to keep the strip going. The county doesn't have any issues with that.
Actually, the county has changed it's mind again and they now claim there are issues with improvements that were made to the tower at the strip. So yes, they now have a problem with us too. The county trying to close this facility is pure BS. If not for a few pencil pushing county gov't employees trying to justify a paycheck and being unhappy about making a crappy choice in the job they decided to take, this would not be an issue. Speedworld provides a venue for lovers of all motorsports to enjoy their hobby, better we take advantage of this place than the streets and out in our fragile desert is my opinion. The track has been operating since 1961. Shutting down a revenue generating, tax paying, service offering entity in an economy such as this just isn't good government. In fact, it's HORRIBLE government! Why is it that gov't bureaucrats, especially the regulatory types, think they need to stick their noses in every single part of peoples' lives? These agencies are always looking for ways to squeeze cash out of people to oblige to them. They dont really seem to care so much about what work you are doing, just how much money they get for permits. Everytime there is a need to move dirt on a DIRT TRACK shouldn't require a separate and new permit. This is just stupid. Speedworld has an on-line petetion that you can sign and e mail to the county supervisors. GO DO IT!!!!!!!
I didnt make it to Speedworld. been moving the wifes stuff back to the house since her last surgery. Anyone make it to Central last night?? I probably wont be there next weekend either. May go to a car show in StJohns next saturday but dont know yet. Time to get out of this valley heat!!
There has got to be a hearing of soemsort that WE as the public can get into and be heard. I think seeing a group 40 or 50 hot rod people would do these bastards allot of good. Anybody have an inside line on when stuff is going down on this deal?
From what track owner Dan Mathews has told me peprsonally over a month back, this info is not true. The drag strip is part of the issue. Sat night at Speedworld was a mad house. There was huge turn out there.
