Take the Golden opportunity....

  1. <font color="black"> I was at the local Vintage Day today with fellow car club members and as usual, we had a great display.
The show is held every 2 years and covers all aspects of machinery.
Like, stationary engines, Vintage cars, Midget Racers, Fire Engines, Classics etc. etc. (including all and sundry and everything inbetween)
They have a parade around the grounds in the avo' to show the great unwashed the fine array of vehicles on show.
Now this is where things get tricky....!
One of our members has a 1925 Model T Truck Tipper (been in family for generations) and the young feller and myself were sitting in it seeking refuge from the cool breeze...
The owner waltzes up and asks if I am going in the parade with the Fairlane. "Nope" Well then he say's, "You may as well drive this"
    Lever: Hi Lo Neutral,
Left pedal: Press down to move forward
    Right pedal: Brake
    Middle pedal: Reverse.
    mmmmmm, OK
Off we go chugging along when I get stopped by the parade organiser. "The County Mayor will be riding in here with you"
So, there we were, Me, my 7 yr old Son and her Ladyship sat next to us riding shotgun.
With a smile on my face I turn to her and say, "First time I have driven this... LOL"
We had grin's from ear to ear! [IMG]
Just makes you realize what our forefathers had to drive in to do their job!
Any of you there able to share a golden opportunity like this?
    Be great to hear! [IMG]
    Cheers,
    C

A friend of mine restored a 1918 Mack A.C. His grandfather had a fleet of them back in the Twentys. Chain drive, balloon tires, with a top speed of 18 m.p.h. Got to drive it while helping him figure out the technique.for shifting the trans. The steering is one half turn lock to lock and you can't move the streeing wheel at all unless the truck is moving! To drive that thing all day, in any weather would make you earn your keep.

Today I drove a friend's Black 2002 FORD F150 Harley Davidson Anniversary Pickup. [IMG]
Both of these by chance or good fortune, however you look at it, within 24 hours driving 2 of Henry's babies nigh on 80 years apart.
FORD has come a long way! [IMG]

Great story! I drove a 1914 "T" runabout in a field once, it "kind of gets going" in high - surprised me.
