I'll be in Charlotte this week for a photo shoot and should have the second half of saturday and most of sunday free to play. I fly home sunday at 5pm.
Any fun car stuff going down this weekend? I'm staying in northeast Charlotte @ Hilton near UNC off I85.
    Who wants to play?

There ain't shit to do where you are, they closed down the Sandwich Construction Co. even. Go "uptown" and check out the Double Door or the Freemont. There is always something to do at those places. The Men's Club has a great buffet as well. Do not leave without eating some Carolina style barbeque and some pups. Also, stop in for a chickensteak bisquit at Bojangles, your stomach will thank me but your heart may not.

would that be eastern or western? I'm a big fan of the eastern vinegar based BBQ, even though I'm really from PA...

So the Sandwich Factory's closed ? rats! I lived in Charlotte 6 years ago; that was a cool place to see the crunched NASCAR parts, etc.
This is what I'd recommend for stuff to do:
Dennis Carpenter's shop - lots of nos and not-so nos parts
Dilworth Brewing Co. - good brew
Oh, and ask for an old-fashioned burger (cole slaw & chili)
    Lowe's Motor Speedway - maybe someone's 'testing'

Dilworth closed down too, I had a mug with my name on it there. I lived on WT Harris Blvd near where Shortbus will be , right accross from the Harris Teeter. Then I moved to Rock Hill. In all I lived there from '91 to '02.

I interviewed for a job at Dennis Carpenter's for a procurement job, I got an offer, for maybe 40% of my salary. Pass. They do have some really kool stuff if you do the tour.

Humble Sam's Barbeque Reveiw rates Spoon's as the best in Charlotte, but if you have a car, you could go up I-85 to Lexington, and try Lexington BBQ #1 or Jimmy's. Lex is a sort of Mecca for western NC tomato based BBQ, and I understand that these are two of the best.

There are also some car museums in the NE Charlotte area; you'll be real near the Nascar speedway.

You talking about the one upRt.49, that's $10 to get into a less than stellar museum (IMHO).

shortbus, before you leave on your trip, get on the 'puter,do a search on musclemotorsports.
they are near the charlotte motor speedway(about 16 miles of of I-85,heading west),it is like a clearing house of nascars last years parts.it's like a grocery store full of used parts.
trust me,it is worth a visit. check their hours,i'm pretty sure they are open on the weekend,(if thats when you are gonna' be there),and the guy that owns it is a motorhead.
he has an ex-nascar stocker(from the bill elliot era),that he runs at the maxton mile.hell, check out ecta.com and see if anything is going on there.
but check out musclemotorsports if ya' can.
    later.

You're KILLING me Smalls! I'm swell, how the hell have you been?

Don't cry Donk, I'll save the angry inch for you. yeah, I'm so rockerrific even my back hair is combed into a pomp.(which makes perfect sense since there's none on my dome)

    FAB you suck.

Everyone else, thanks for the info. I might be at LMS anyway, we're shooting 'neckcar drivers for a Gillette Mach 3 commercial...

If any car stuff pops up over the weekend, feel free to hit my cell phone.

I used to read your stuff in Mustang Monthly. Seems like there was a recepie for the stories on those cars, buzzwords used ad nausem for describing the cars...

Say in ain't so. [IMG] [IMG] Sandwich Construction Co. was a pretty cool place to eat. That place had more nascar sheetmetal than some of the race shops I've been in down there. Oh well there's still Stock Car Cafe in Mooresville. It still sucks though. Eric

ps CrazyDaddy mentioned Lowe's Motor Speedway. Take the tour it is kinda cool. They take you out in a 1 ton van and run up to about 80-90mph on the track. Done it twice now and well worth the $5 (I think thats right, might be $10 and you get 5 back if you buy something in the gift shop.) Anyways my mother-inlaw was scared shitless as I'm tryin to get the guy to go faster. Lots of shops are in the area also if you like that kinda stuff. Just a thought.
